Personal Entry - Part One

24 + years it has been and I never actually penned down what keeps running in my head every other second. I decided to write down whatever comes to my mind and see where it leads. For now, here are few things:

I love my life and have no regrets. With every wrong step I took, I have learnt something new and with every right step, I have gained something.

I like everyone, you would rarely find me cursing or hating anybody. People are different and I don't mind accepting that.

I am passionate about many things in life - reading, sports, dancing, travelling, cooking, social work, photography - and one day want to be an expert in all of these fields.

I dream about being rich and traveling the whole world, clicking awesome photos with an awesome camera. As a child, I remember dreaming Elephants chasing me and falling from high altitudes. Recently, I also remember dreaming Katrina Kaif landing in the room next to me ;-)

I wish that I will find a beautiful girl who would look at me the way I wish and love me for what I am.

I could go on and on and on. But for now, I am just an ordinary guy, with extra-ordinary dreams which I need to customize, living life as it comes, loving every bit and taking chances now n then. :)

Life can be tough

One day, a guy with a broken leg started home from office at 6PM with a hope of reaching home by 7PM. He was very hungry when he started from office. It took him half an hour to get a cab home. By the time he started home, it was about 6.45PM and it started raining. On any other day, the boy would love the rain and go dancing in it, but this is not the day. His body was taken over by his hunger. He better listen to it. The cab driver knew the city routes well and he took the boy through the least possible crowded streets and shortcuts but traffic was inevitable because of rain. There was a junction at which the cab got stuck for almost 30 minutes. The boy's hunger scaled up now to the extent that had he been served with chicken biryani, he can easily eat so much quantity as you would get in a family pack. After about 20 minutes of struggling and dirt racing through the overflowing water, they crossed the junction. Fate had its own ploy. More trouble awaited them in the form of a flat tire. It took the driver sometime to realize that and even more time to change the tire. Another 10 minutes there. They changed the tire and they drove home. The boy finally reached his home by 8.30PM. His fate is dawning upon him now in the form of a power cut. Hyderabad is known more as a city of power cuts rather than as the city of pearls. With a broken leg and the surgery he went through recently, he could not risk taking the stairs to his home on the 4th floor. He waited, waited, waited for almost like an eternity. He is beginning to lose his hunger. He saw a ray of hope in the form of his brother who returned from work at about 8.45PM. His brother helped him climb the stairs and reach his doorstep. His mom opened the door for him and informed that she didn't yet prepare dinner. The boy could imagine his fate laughing at him now. He was thunderstruck listening to those words. He had begun to shiver because of the weakness from hunger. He had to wait for another 20 minutes before he could finally jump on the food. It didn’t matter to him what he was served. All he needed was some food. He never ate bitter gourd in his life but this day he did. Finally, his hunger was satisfied and now he gave back a wink to his fate, this turned the fate’s face red. More trouble pouring in on the poor boy in the form of mosquitoes when he tried to sleep. Mosquitoes were playing with his body and sucking his blood as if they were as hungry as he was. He twisted, turned and did all that he could do to avoid those mosquitoes and to get some sleep. After about 2 hours of struggling, he finally gave up and got adjusted to the mosquito biting and his eyelashes finally met. He fell asleep.

Not the end of the story. The boy was asleep for not more than an hour and then there it was, power back up. He was so happy but it turned out to be another one of his fate’s ploy. The power kept switching between on and off. The boy couldn’t take anymore. He got up from his bed to see that it’s already 5am the next day. He wasn’t sad anymore nor is he cursing his fate. He went to the balcony to watch the sunrise. The site of sunrise refreshed him. He is happy at it. He came back into his room. There is power at his home now. He checked at the clock and it showed 6AM. He switched on his laptop and an idea struck him immediately and he composed this post :-)

This is my incident and it happened to me last night. Sometimes, we do not have things under our control. That’s when we start thinking “Life is tough”. There is a saying which goes like “Life can throw 100 hurdles in your way but you got to give it back 1000 reasons to smile”. Another one: “It doesn’t matter how hard you can hit, what matters is how hard you can get hit and still stand up”. So, here I go…

LIFE CAN BE TOUGH… BUT SO CAN I

I have been thinking about the assignment that was given to ISB students and also the task that I gave to my mom. From the minute I have heard about it, I put on my thinking cap (looks like that’s the only one I can wear for a while now) and was wondering what can I do.

The ultimate challenge: Invest an amount of 500 – 5000 and start a business that will produce profits for you. ISB students were given an advantage that they can make use of any resource available within the campus to start their business.

I first concentrated on three basic things required to start a business: Money, Man Power and Material. I neither have material nor manpower to start a business. ISB students had manpower (group of 10 people) and material too (they are allowed to use any resource available within the campus). I have an upper limit on the money which means I cannot put in more money into the business that I plan to start. (This is common with most of the people who want to start a small business. Financial situation is a major constraint). Working with these constraints and the exposure that I have, I could come up with a solution.

Major source of manpower that I have access to is old people above the age of 60. I took an example of my own grandma and the present business she is running. She runs the business of preparing leaf plates (isthari aakulu we call in telugu).

Here are the details:

Investment : The leaves in loose will cost about 30 rupees per kg and will come around a count of 300.

Each plate will constitute a maximum of 5 leaves to complete. The output leaves will cost 80 rupees (not sure on the price.. may be more) per 100.

The manpower she has will be the people of same age living in the neighbourhood.

This interests me to put up a similar proposal where the old age people of the neighbour hood can work together to gain some profits on their own. This need not be limited to the business of leaf plates but can be extended to something like paper bags. The only constraint with this model is the amount of physical labour to be done is limited(since old people cant do much of walking).

The next source of manpower I believe can come from the NGOs. Make a tie up with an NGO, explain them the work and business that you intend to do and share a part of the revenue with them and also put up a training. Like the Chinese proverb says “ Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, you fed him the whole life”. This goes as a win- win situation with both the concerns. I get enough revenue and man power, they get to have the training and an opportunity.

These two are into my mind when i think of man power for the business. I intend to solve the manpower through any one of these.

After thinking for a while on what can be the raw material for the business, I happened to look at my wardrobe. This was filled with half the number of clothes I wear and the rest are shorter and I intend to wear them once I get slim(which is not happening anytime soon). Thinking again I thought of the feedback Naresh gave me when he went for a flood relief camp last year. Of all the things that were received, people got so much fed up with extra clothes that they started to throw them away once the camp people have left. This is the amount of excess clothes we have in houses. Then it struck me… why cant I use this as the raw material for the business. The types of products that will be able to churn out will include floor mats, mops, waste clothes, simple bags, rugs. To this, the man power needs to be trained for the same. This training is one time investment and is worth it.

The other important aspect is the marketing effort. How do we sell the products that we make? Since we get all the raw material for free, the price of the products that we make will be affordable by everyone. I intend to take the help of my friends here. Let’s say came up with few door mats first. We will distribute these door mats to our friends and ask them to sell these door mats to people in their apartments/neighbourhood. These doormats should not be costing more than 20 rupees. We will also tell our friends to explain the motto behind doing this to the persons whom they are selling the products. The price being less, and the motto being good, we expect people to buy them.

I still need to refine this idea and work on it. I expect readers of my blog to help me with this. They can help me in refining the idea or providing training or in marketing and selling.

A task for my Mom

This is a post in continuation to the one that I posted yesterday: How do you invest a relatively less amount of money and engage people in it and make profit out of it?

My dad has been with the Mining industry for more than 30 years. He possesses vast amount of knowledge in this field that he is right now consulting with different companies and can be on the board of technical advisors if he chooses to.

I have two brothers: Suresh and Naresh.

Suresh completed his Bachelors degree from NIT Trichy (formerly known as REC Tiruchirappalli), then went on to University of Michigan at Ann Arbour to pursue his Masters and is right now working with Qualcomm for the past 4 years or so. He has a lot of ideas in which he implemented a few and is quite happy with the way things are progressing. He opened up a website through which people can buy cars at a relatively cheaper price. Naresh completed his Bachelors degree from NIT Surathkal, worked with Ashok Leyland for an year and a half and then started working with a start up software company. He is into apple iphone applications development and he is the person behind ApalyaTv and MobiTv applications on iphone.

Coming to me, I did my Bachelors in CSE from IIIT Hyderabad. During my graduation, I was a member of “Society to Save Rocks”. SSR conducts a monthly rock-walk trip to places around Hyderabad. People of different ages used to come for the rock-walks and it used to be a good knowledge enhancement time for me. Apart from just this, I always had friends who are easily 6 years elder to me. After graduation, I took an interest in dancing and took a few dance classes. Within these dance classes, I made friends with people from varied backgrounds: A law student who runs an NGO, a BE Gold Medalist who quit her job as an HR and took up her passion in painting, a freelancer, a journalist, a movie artist, a movie maker and etc. Talking to people with varied backgrounds gives anyone an exposure to different things.

Having said about all of us, it is now time to tell about my mom. She studied till 7th and left studies because of unavailability of a proper school. Moreover, girls during her time are not advised nor made to study further. My dad married my mom when he was 23 and she was 16. She didn’t have much exposure to the outer world but her wisdom comes from her own experiences and from reading. I would give credit to her for moulding us into the persons who we are now.

My mom would read about other people (in newspapers) making more money than us (brothers and dad) in spite of the less qualifications they have compared to us. So, she keeps pestering us about setting up our own business or investing the money somewhere and making huge profits. In her exact words “Do something. Put up some business and three of you make money”. She always says that. Put up SOME business. Which business to put up or invest the money in, never said that :-) Typical mom :D

We do not have a concrete business idea. Hence, to keep my mom silent and thinking for a while, I gave her a challenge: I will give her 5000 rupees which she can use on anything and make profit on it. I took the idea from the ISB assignment and customized it for my mom. She didn’t yet get back to me with anything but I believe she will in sometime.

My mom’s mother makes money from her efforts. She buys raw materials required for making paper/leave plates at a cost of 40 rupees. She sells the finished product for a price of 100 rupees. I gave this example to my mom and asked her to look into what interests her and then probably think on those lines.

An Assignment

I have come to hear about this assignment from one of my friends who is pursuing his MBA from ISB. Theirs was a batch of 450 people. They were divided into 45 groups of 10 each. An amount of RS.500/- was given to each of these 45 teams. They have to use only this amount as their initial investment and report their profit after a month. They are allowed to use this money to be invested in anything of their choice, it can be shares, mutual funds, a business of their choice, campaigning for their business, it can be anything. It all boils down to investing the money given to you and making profits. All the teams are expected to keep an account of the money. The team that makes the maximum profit is the winner of this simple and yet fun assignment. All the teams are expected to return the initial investment and they can keep the profit with them.

And the winning team left with a profit of 15,700. I was wondering what is it that they could have done that brought them so much of profit.

I could think of a few tasks which might help in gaining some profit. I will post about them tomorrow. In the mean time, I ask all the readers of this post to do what they can.

The task is simple: Invest 500 rupees and make profit out of it.

I have now achieved the 60 degree angle at my knee with my thigh bone and calf bone as the two sides of the angle. This is when I lie flat on my stomach and do it. Next step would be to achieve this angle while standing. This is essential for the knee functioning. Need to take the doctor’s advice on this before I go ahead with it.
I would be going to office starting this Monday, i.e. 19th April 2010. I am using the cab facility provided by the company for my pick up and drop. I will have to make some adjustments near my desk so that I can sit comfortably and work without troubling the knee and the knee joints.
It would still take me another month or so to walk without any fear of instability or the fear of tipping off.
I need to talk to a few people before the summer ends and finalize on few things for future planning.

What happened to your leg? Met with an accident?

No, not an accident. I don’t drive too fast or rash. Moreover, I drive a car. So, there’s a least possibility for an accident to happen to the left knee. It’s a football injury. I have an unhappy triad: meniscus/cartilage tear, ACL tear, and a lateral cruciate ligament tear. These are common injuries to football players but they take a long time to heal.

How did it happen?

Happened while playing football. Take a look at this video to see the common injuries that can happen to a football player. My injury is similar to the one that happens at 2:36minutes. I must tell you b4 that the video can be a little scary.

How many days does it take to recover?

It takes complete one year to recover and get my knee to perform normally.

Why so long?

This is a joint injury and ligament tear. Had it been a bone fracture, it would completely recover in 2 months. Bone has the ability to grow on its own. Joints and muscles cannot heal or recover on their own. So, for me, whatever is torn, it is replaced by another muscle taken from Hamstring tendon. And 2 screws are placed in knee to help in its normal functioning. So, I have to get myself used to using the artificial parts in my body and train the knee for few tasks like weights, stretches and contractions. Whatever my right knee can do, I now have to train my left knee to do those. Looking at the degrees of motion, bones have only one but joints have much more than that. Hence, so long

Any recovery plan or schedule?

Yes, there is… For the first one week of surgery, I do not use my left leg at all. Then, the next2 weeks, a certain set of exercises that will help build the strength in the knee, thigh and calf bones as well. The next 3 weeks, another set of exercises that include pulling the leg up lying flat on the tummy, mild squats and etc that will help gain more flexibility and strength in the knee. Right now, I am in this period, this is considered to be the crucial period of recovery. Daily, I need to do about 6hrs of physiotherapy exercises. Phew! and they are painful all the times.

Will you be able to play and dance after an year?

Yes, I will be able to play and dance after an year, provided I stick to my recovery plan. The more time you take to recover, the better it is.

How many days of leave did you get?

I applied for 4 weeks of leave but considering the situation I am in now, I must ask for an extension of 2 more weeks. I should be getting it approved.

Don’t you get bored sitting at home all day?

No, I do not. I have my exercises that keep me busy almost all through the day. Then, I have loads of books at home which I love reading. Apart from this, I have an internet connection at home that will help me get rid of my boredom. Subscribing to a few RSS feeds always help :-)

When can we see you walking normally?

In another 3 weeks hopefully :-)

After the surgery and the second visit to the doctor, this is how my schedule looks these days:

Wake up at around 8 – 8.30AM

Done with morning chores by 9AM

Breakfast by 9.30AM

First round of exercises from 9.30AM – 11AM

Sit with the laptop for an hour checking emails and reading to gain more knowledge

12PM - Take Bath

12.30 – 1300: Watch TV and read the newspaper

1300 – 150o:Lunch and second round of exercises

1500 – 1630: Rest time (reading Tinkle as of now)

1630 – 1730: Sit with the laptop again to read and prepare

1730 – 1830: Sit and watch kids play in the parking lot

1830 – 2000: Catch up with friends online while browsing through some stuff over the internet

2000 – 2230: Have dinner and third round of exercises while watching IPL

2230 – Sleep :D

As time flies by and as I sit with you

But now, times have changed…

It’s not the same anymore, at least for a while…

Now, I sit with you, pondering over what brought us together

As I spend my days with you, I have begun to realize

how difficult it would have been without you in my life…

I would have been lost touch with the entire world

You bring the whole world in front of me by accompanying me all the time

There are times during each day when I have to leave you for a while

I feel dry, I feel thirsty, I feel as if my bones are on fire, I feel exhausted

I was very surprised to see the phone display. It said "Amulya calling".

I answered the phone. The conversation:

Amulya: Hey! Happy Birthday!!!

Rakesh: Thanks Amulya. You are such a sweetheart. You are the first one to wish me this year.

Amulya: I generally do not believe in wishing people at midnight, but somehow happened to call you now.

Rakesh: Oh. okay. Even I do not believe in wishing people at midnight. It only makes me think that I am disturbing someone at midnight, but I usually leave a text message on their phone, so that it reminds them they are on my mind. Texting also leaves them with ample time to get back to us with a reply. With a cal, you never know how many others are trying to reach him/her at that time, it will only make the poor chap get confused :P

Amulya: I get your point. I just wanted to wish. See ya. bye

Rakesh: Didn't mean that. Come online. we'll talk

Amulya: So, do you still celebrate your birthday?

Me: yes, I do, why ask?

Amulya: I mean, you must be 23 or 24 now and you still celebrate your birthday? What significance does a single day hold for you even after so many years?

Me: OH you talking about celebrating birthday? Yes, I celebrate the day with near and dear. It's that time when everyone's in a mood to celebrate. Apart from that, it's not just about a single day, it's about that entire year.

Amulya: Year?

Me: yes, as in, what did i do when i was 22? what did i do when i was 23? It's not just about the things that I did as I grow up. You come across different people, some make an impact on your life, you are influenced by someone's actions and all. You learn lessons as you grow up. On my birthday, I take time to recollect all those people and all those special moments from which I am influenced / learnt lessons and take it forward. That's why I hold significance for it. It's not about being a kid on that day, but its about how much did you grow up? what all did you learn through out that year, a recollection of events :)

Amulya: okay. Good one. It's time I hit the sack. You enjoy your birthday.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom.

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent..

Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Every person is born and dies as “I”. But what makes life worthwhile is living as “V”. Have you ever wondered what it feels to be casted away, sick, disabled or not being loved or cared for? It’s just unimaginable. Still life never ends...it gets going. There are many people in such phases of life suffering every minute and every second yet smiling away with a little hope that someone out there would surely come to bring them out of those sufferings. All they need is just a helping hand, love and care.

Life is “not a struggle for existence” but “a search of purpose for existence”. “V” CARE helps you understand this purpose.

Every individual is only bothered about whether he or she is leading a happy life. Especially in a country like India, where more than 60% of the population is below the poverty line and without even a square meal a day, where there are millions who are uncared for and not looked after. In such a place, love definitely can make a difference.

All that we can probably do is lending a helping hand to at least a few in those millions suffering out there. Bring a small smile to their faces and pray to god that even others do the same.

Shradda works for the differently abled women not only to provide health, education, and rehabilitation, but also self-confidence and self-reliance. Shradda’s main goal is to expand their services to the paraplegic and make them independent.

“V” Care will be supporting Shradda financially, to overcome their maintenance requirements.

A very happy Valentines Day

ME (M): *Wondering what’s wrong* what happened?

S: *kissing me on the cheek* Happy Valentines Day.
M: *Hugging her* Happy Valentines Day to you too.

S: Do you remember the promise that you made?
M: I didn’t forget that, but it was supposed to be at 10am

S: *With a dude you should buy an alarm clock that actually works look on her face and showing me the time*. It’s already 10. I knew that you would be still sleeping. And hence, I had to come down here to wake you up.
M: Hmmm okay…

S: I love watching you sleep ;) You sleep like a kid, your face so calm that one can forget all their tensions and just go on watching you sleep. *pulling the rug that I wrapped around myself* Come on get up now
M: Please, let me sleep for a little more. Please.

S: No. you get up now. We got to go somewhere. You promised to take me out today.
M: Hmmm. I know but we can sleep for a little more time. *pulling her towards me* You too sleep for a while now.
After a few minutes, my stomach demanded that its contents be emptied as soon as possible or else it is going to spoil my day. So,
M: this should be enough. Come on, get up now. I will get ready in a while
S: Hmmm. Okay. I will be in the other room. You get up and get ready.
M: Hmmm. Give me 10mins. I will be ready

So, there I was… who was asleep at the time I should be taking her out. However, I woke up at 10 and started getting ready. I took my bath and came out of the shower with only a towel covering me. She gave me a stare that I would never forget in my life. I looked into her eyes for a while and then went to my room, put on my clothes and

M: Hey, could you help me with this new shirt that I am trying on?
S: Sure. I am coming in now
My heart started racing as soon as she spoke those words.

S: *Giving me a what the… look* You should try something new rather than what all these Bollywood heroes are doing to themselves now. Six packs, funky looks are famous now, I know; but for you, you look good when you are simple. You don’t have to put that extra effort to look good.
for all you people, i don't have a six pack for sure. It's the new shirt that I bought and I was not sure if she will like it or not.
M: *grin* Thank you Here, I have something for you.
I had a surprise gift for her; a sari, which she wanted to buy when we went out shopping for my birthday. She couldn’t buy it then and hence, I picked it up for her on this occasion.

S: *with a surprised look on her face and with much more anxiety to know what’s there in the gift wrap* what’s in this?
M: Open it and see it for yourselves

She carefully unwrapped the present. I can still remember the excitement on her face while she removed layer after layer of the wrapping. One thing that I still couldn’t understand about her is this: how careful she is while opening a gift. She saves all the wrapping paper as well along with the gift. She finally opened the box and saw the sari.

S: *eyes wide open with happiness* Beautiful!!! I love it.
With that, she came close to me and hugged me
M: this was the same sari that you wanted to buy during my birthday. I bought it for you
Now, she kissed me on the cheeks
M: *with a wide grin on my face* Shall we go? I am ready.
S: You go downstairs and check the car if it is all fine. I don’t want any breakdowns or engine failures at least today. In the meanwhile, I will change into this sari and come down.

M: Don’t forget to lock the house
S: I know
M: Ok. Here I go.

I went to the car parking, checked if everything in the car is ok, sprayed Jasmine flavored air freshener in the car, and checked the air pressure in wheels etc. Then, I turned on the music system and kept that songs cd which I wrote a little earlier. I was buckling my seat belt just when the door towards my left opened. I lifted my head and I couldn’t believe what I saw. She was in the sari that I gifted her just minutes ago and she was so beautiful that it took me a while to come back to reality. Song playing in the music system: “Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein kayal aata hain… ki jaise tuj ko banaaya gayaa hain mere liye” That was a red sari with a bit of work at the borders. She wore the red colored stones necklace (guess that was a ruby one) that she ordered for herself with my first salary. She looked absolutely gorgeous.

S: what are you looking at? Is something wrong with the dress?
M: No. Hell No. It’s absolutely fine. You look gorgeous. I never thought you look so beautiful :P

S: Thanks. Nice aroma in the car and good song
M: Yes. Just for you. Shall we go?

S: Yes
M: Ok. Shilparamam, here we come.

Shilparamam is a place in Hyderabad where all handicraft exhibitions take place. There is an all-India handicrafts mega exhibition going on these days and we were headed for that.
We reached Shilparamam at about 11.30 only to find that the exhibition starts daily only at 4 in the evening. I was wondering how she would react to the failure of the plan.

S: Huh! It’s closed.
M: I know. Sorry, I should have checked with these guys first
S: Don’t be.
M: Hmmm okay. Do you want to catch a movie?
S: Not interested.
M: Hey, let’s go to the art exhibition here in State Art Gallery. I know it would be open from 11 in the morning.
S: okay. Let’s go

We hold our hands while crossing the road. She carefully adjusted her sari so that it wouldn’t be difficult for her to walk across the road. We reached the car. I opened the door for her.
S: *Pleasant and extremely happy look on the face*
I then took her to the state art gallery for the arts exhibition. We parked the car at the corner of the street and walked towards the art gallery

Time: Around 12.15PM

M: Have you ever tried painting or sketching?
S: Not really, but I used to sit and sketch the places surrounding me. That was a long ago, when I was a kid. As time flew by, I started experimenting with clothes, bags etc. I am pretty good at those. I presented a couple of my creations to my friends and they liked it very much. I will make something for you. Until now, I have done all girly stuff and that’s why I didn’t show you anything. Next time I do some sketch or stitch, I will surely take your feedback

M: I am sure it would be good. It’s you. So, it’s going to be good
S: thanks. What about you? Have you ever tried sketching?
M: who? Me? Yeah, I did once. I have had this urge to try my hand at sketching for a long time. 3 years ago, when I was in college and had ample time to spend, I tried my first sketch: elephant’s rear view.

S: What!!!
M: Yeah, you heard it right. Elephant’s back
S: But why? How?
M: Oh, don’t get me wrong. I wasn’t trying to draw that. I took a pencil in my hand and started to scribble something in the book. I drew a large sized C. I drew 2 vertical lines, each of 1cm length attached to the end points of C. Then, I drew 2 straight lines, each from the open end of the vertical lines. I drew those lines in such a way that they would meet at 3/4th the length of C. I put something like a tail just to the left of the point where the two straight lines met. It didn’t make any sense until a friend of mine turned the book 90 degrees clockwise and then suddenly, its all clear. It’s elephant’s back :P

S: *Hitting me on the head* that’s too much fun anything more that you tried?
M: Watch your step!!!
We reached the stairs. She was walking with her face turned towards me and talking to me. She slipped at the first step and I stopped her from falling by holding her hands. I was wondering at this moment about the background song. There was no song: absolute silence as if the whole world stopped.
S: *with a face that I cannot describe* Phew!! If I have had fallen; I would have made you do the entire house hold work.
M: Thanks! I guess I just saved myself from all that. Can you walk and climb the stairs? Or do I have to lift you and carry you in my arms?
S: No thanks! I will save myself from the embarrassment. I will remember your offer though
M: *that would save me for the day as well*

So, there we were, at the start art gallery, a place, which she wanted to visit for a very long time. We went through all the rooms, aisles, corridors etc and enjoyed the beautiful creations of various artists. There were oil paintings, canvas paintings, plain sketches, Landscapes, sceneries, abstract paintings etc located there. After going through all the paintings and observing carefully what each of the painting portrays
M: Did you notice?
S: What?
M: No one could come close to what I have drawn :P
S: Shut up and let’s go for lunch
M: You never appreciate my work :(
S: I will, when it is worth appreciating
M: Okay. So, where do you want to go?
S: wherever you take me
With that she came close to me, took me by hand and both of us walked towards the car. We reached the car and again I opened the door and held for her. She got in the car and then

M: Hey! Do you remember this place I told you about a long time ago? Let’s go there.
S: Anywhere you take me

From state art gallery, we headed towards this restaurant named “Spicy venue”. I had been there once with a couple of friends and I liked the place very much. More than the place, I liked the food, especially the Thali there. Thali is served in fresh green banana leaves which increase your appetite. What add to the ambience are the birds there. The tables inside the restaurant are placed such that each table has a glass window next to it, from which people sitting near the table can look outside thru the window. There is a bird cage hanged outside each window and each cage had 4 love birds; 2 green in color and 2 in blue. Normally, people who go there for food order their food and till the time their order is ready, they spent that time with the birds. A very fascinating thing about love birds is the way they fight. You should see in order to know more. Lovebirds make lively and energetic pet birds. They are available in a variety of colors and are playful and often boisterous birds. So, I thought she would love to play with the birds and took her there.

Time: 1PM
Location: The Restaurant
We were given a red carpet welcome and I guess the hotel guys bought new nests and new birds this time. They are more active and more playful than ever; and she was more beautiful than ever.
We were offered a table and we sat facing each other. There were few couples at the restaurant: guys wearing a formal and girls in red skirts. Valentines Day specials I guess.

M: *picking up the rose flower placed on the table and stretching my hand to her* I love you
S: *taking the rose from my hand* Thank you. I love you too
M: :)
S: So, what’s for lunch?
M: Thali. It’s good here. If you want to try something else, you can check the menu
S: No. Today, it’s all your day. You will plan everything for me.
M: Hmmm okay. Then, Thali. I am sure you will like it.
S: anything you say
M: Did you notice something?
S: What? I can’t believe you still want to be appreciated for your sketching. Yeah, I did notice that no art in the gallery is closer to your art.
M: Hey, wait. You got me wrong. Did you notice the surroundings?
S:*Turning her face and looking through the windows* Are they really…. Bir…d…s?
M: You got me right. *bending down to pick the hand kerchief* Thought you would love to play with the birds and hence I got you here. Where did she go?
S: *From outside the window next to our table* I am here
M: When did you get there?
S: Come out
M: Yeah coming.

I placed the order and then went outside to be with her. She loved playing with birds. It’s been a very long time I saw her like that. She looked like a kid to me at that moment when she was playing with the birds. She was very excited, had a very wide smile and a glow on the face that showed she was much happy. I placed my arms around her but she is too involved in playing with the birds that she didn’t notice. After a while

S: So, you were saying
M: I didn’t say anything
S: I am asking about your artwork in sketching and painting
M: You really want to know about that? I do just pencil sketching; that too, when I am damn bored.

S: It’s okay. Tell me more about it.
M: Tell you more? What about it?
S: Well, Didn’t you try anything else other than an elephant’s back?
M: Come on! I already told you how I ended up drawing an elephant’s back when I was actually trying to draw a teacup

S: Okay... so, no more trials?
M: Well, there was; in the same month that I did my first sketch.
S: You really call that a sketch: P
M: *Angry look for a second and back to normal* Yeah. The same month, I thought I should draw a face, a human face. I thought about a week to decide whose face to draw, and then made up my mind that I will draw the most beautiful face I have ever seen. Then, I thought who it would be. After much thought and 3 months of hard work, I had the sketch ready
S: oh, wow! 3 months of hard work. Good. whose portrait is it?
M: Any guesses?
S: Must be one of those girls whom you like.
M: there you go, you are wrong though :P It was my portrait :D
S: Yours!!! you got to be joking. How did you manage to make a sketch of yourselves?
M: It was during my 3rd year in the college. I had a lot of free time and I wanted to try my hand in few things. When I started sketching, I couldn’t fix on one thing to sketch. One day, while I was combing my hair looking at the mirror, it struck me then. I got the idea to sketch myself then. So, I used to sit on my chair, have the mirror on the table; and by looking into the mirror, I could make a sketch of myself
S: Okay. Do you have it now? Can I take a look at it?
M: No, I don’t have it now. It took me 3 months to make the sketch. I look like a school kid in that sketch. I had it posted on my door as a “Beware” sign and somebody tore the sketch.

S: Oh, that’s so sad. You didn’t try sketching again?
M: No. What about you? You didn’t try anything of this kind?
S: Na, not much. I used to paint on saris or cloth
M: Oh yeah, that reminds me of something we did last year
S: so, you have more to tell me.
M: Yes. Every year, my college hosts a cultural and technical fest named “Felicity”. Last year, a group of 12 friends went to the fest to have fun. There was this “Painting competition” held in which we were given a full size chart paper and few oil colors and pencils.
S: Okay…
M: All of us wanted to draw something and we know that we are very bad at that. Suddenly, an idea flashed across my mind, which when implemented, won the third price
S: Oh, what is it? I can’t wait to hear it
M: that’s suspense. You will have to wait till this year’s Felicity

All this while, she was playing with the birds and watching me. She was trying to teach a few words to the love birds. She can make all sorts of faces you love to watch. I received a message from the restaurant staff that our food is ready. So, we went in and

S: Wow! It has been a really long time that I had anything in fresh banana leaves. This increases my appetite.
M: I know that you will like it and hence I bought you here. You want to order some non-veg dish?
S: No, thanks. I love the spread here
M: Okay. There you go. Have your food. Hope you would like it
By the time I spoke those words, she has already started eating.
S: Like it? I love the food. It tastes just the same as it would taste if I prepared it.
M: Yes, you are right and that’s why I come here very often. Have you ever tried Pasta, Spaghetti etc?
S: Never even heard about them. What are they?
M: They look more or less like noodles. I can teach you how to prepare them.
S: okay
And the conversation went so on. We finished our lunch by 3PM.

S: It’s only 3 now. Where do we go?
M: Let’s go to my college. I am sure there will be a lot of people who would be glad to meet you. I keep telling my friends about you and they all wanted to meet you.
S: Okay.

Time 3.30PM
Venue: My College
I took her to the most happening place in my college, the Coffee shop. Whenever I go to my college, I will sit there in the coffee shop (as it is called) and give a call to all the people I know asking them to come there to the coffee shop. From there, we make our plans for the day and have fun. We reached the coffee shop. I pulled a chair for her to sit and made few calls. Within 10 minutes, my friends came to see her.
M: Hi, she is my…
Friends (F): yeah, we know. You don’t have to tell who she is. We can figure it out
M: Thank you. *Turning towards her and pointing my friends* and these are my friends about whom I keep telling you.
S: Hiiiiiii
Friends: Hiiii. *greetings*
F1: *Turning towards me* Dude, she looks a lot more beautiful than in the pics you showed us.
S: *blushing*
M: Hmmm yeah, I know

S: *Looking at my friends* Tell me about Rakesh. How was he when he was in college? Did he have any girl friends? Any fights? Any incidents that I should be aware of?
M: *with an embarrassed face* is that necessary now.
F2: Shhh! You keep quiet now. We have got a chance to tell about you to her. *Turning towards her* yes, there are a lots of things that you should know about him
S: Tell me about them
M: *Interrupting* I guess we should be going now. The exhibition will be on now.
S: no problem. We can go some other time to the exhibition. You tell me about him

Then my friends told her about a few incidents in college, few of them are mentioned in my previous posts. They told her about the girls I liked and how I used to behave when I am around them; how protective I was about them. They told her about the sports that I play and how I play them. I guess they were all prepared for this day to come when they can tell someone about me. Everyone had something or the other to tell. All through the talk, I was watching her face and the element of excitement was there on her face all through: from start till end.

After my friends finished telling stories about me, we bade our friends bye and, from there we headed to Shilparamam again at about 4. It’s almost 3 months that I took her out. She was more than happy to be at Shilparamam. We went around all the stalls buying whatever she liked. She bought a few wall hangings, a pair of footwear, bangles, a handbag, and I bought her a pearl set containing a necklace and ear rings. She thanked me for the pearl set. From Shilparamam, we drove back to my place.

Time: 7PM
We got home. I got out of the car first and then held the door for her. She took my hand and got out of the car. We used the lift to transport us to the fourth floor in the apartment. All this while, she held my hand. We reached the flat and I opened the door, waited for her to come in and closed the door.

S: Phew! Hell of traffic!
M: Yeah. You sit down here. I will give you a little massage. That will help you relax a little.
S: Thanks! I wouldn’t need it. What do you want to have for supper?
M: I would like to have pasta ;)
S: I don’t know how to make it.
M: It’s okay. I will make it. Would you like to have it for supper? Or would you prefer something else?
S: I don’t mind Pasta. Where did you learn making it?
M: Google. So, let me start cooking
S: I am not stopping you
M: Remember, no sneaking into the kitchen
S: Let’s see

Song from the Television: Aise na mujhe tum dekho, seene se laga loonga. Tum ko mein chura loon ga tum se, dil mein chupa loon ga. I didn’t pay much attention to the background music all this while but now, I had to admit there is something going on.
I changed into my pajamas and went into the kitchen and started preparing Pasta. I could see from the corner of my eye that once in a while she would come near the kitchen door, check on me as to what I am doing; and leave and sit in front of TV. I thought she must be spying on me or it might be that she wanted to know the recipe for Pasta. Anyways, within 30 minutes, I finished making Pasta. I asked her to get refreshed while I make the table.

I had everything placed on the table. We both sat down to eat. Just when we were about to taste it, I couldn’t see anything. It was all dark around me. It took me a little time to realize that it’s a power outage. I wanted to shout as I used to shout when I was in hostel but before I could speak anything

S: Oh no!!! Not again. Power cut. Do you have a candle that you can light?
M: *Can’t describe my facial expression here. Come on, it was dark then* Yeah, let me find it
I searched in the darkness for the candle and could find it after being blind for about 5 minutes. I lit the candle and placed it on the table.
M: *I can see now. I am excited :P* Wow!!! Candle light dinner ;)
S: Looks like it is
M: You know what?
S: What?
M: I guess I can just put off the candle if I want to have a moon light dinner tonight
S: ???
M: Figure it out
She took a little while to understand what I meant and
S: Stop that now. *hitting me on the head*
M: you love hitting me on the head. Don't you?
S: Yes
M: But be careful. Don't pluck my hair. You know the story about it. Don't you?
S: Yeah yeah, 3 crore stuff. isn't it?
M: It's not like that. If I like the girl, no dowry. If my mom chooses the girl for me, they would have to pay me a dowry equal to ten times the number of hair on my skull :D
S: Hmmm. so, 3 crores huh?
M: Yeah :D, you didn’t tell me how’s Pasta?
S: It’s good, delicious. I think I can have it once in a while.
M: Okay. I will teach you how to make pasta tomorrow
S: Sure. When do you think the power…
Before she could finish the question, the power was back on. We finished our supper by 9pm. By this time, both of us were very tired.

Time: 9.15PM
We thought we would watch a movie together on TV but both of us could see that the other is exhausted.
S: would you mind if I just go to sleep instead of watching the movie?
M: *thanking all my lucky stars* No. I wouldn’t mind. You can go ahead and sleep.
S: Okay, I am going to sleep in your room and not in the other room.
M: why, my room?
S: your bed has got kurl-on mattresses on it and I want a proper sleep tonight.
M: but, I want to sleep in my bed
S: no problem, you come and sleep when you are done watching TV.
M: okay, thanks!

She went into the room and slept. I watched the movie “A walk to remember” for only 15 minutes when I started feeling sleepy. I went and I lied down.

Time: 9.45PM
Suddenly, I felt a hand on my chest. In no time, I could realize that it was her hand.
S: come close raki *pulling me towards her*
M: hmmm okay. Can I hug you and sleep tonight?
S: *closing her arms around me and hugging me* sure
M: *hugging her* thank you
S: you don’t have to be. *kissing me on forehead* good night
M: *kissing her on the forehead* good night MOM!

Yes, you heard it right. She/her in this post is my mom. My mom had undergone laparoscopic hysterectomy surgery in January and from then, she has been at home. It’s almost like she was house arrested. I was busy with my work and hence couldn’t spend much time with her. So, I promised her that I would take her out this day and thus the post

For all people out there, Valentines Day is not just about lovers. It is for all those people whom you love and care and you feel proud about. You don't need a special day to tell/express to someone how special they are to you, but in this busy world, I guess it is necessary for someone to come up with a special day, atleast on which people will take time out of their schedule to express their feelings to the loved ones :)

When
The school reopened in June,
And we settled in our new desks and
benches!

When we queued up in book depot,
And got our new books
and notes!

When we wanted two Sundays and no Mondays, yet
managed to line up daily for the morning prayers.

We learnt writing with
slates and pencils, and
Progressed To fountain pens and ball pens and then Micro tips!

When we began drawing with crayons and evolved to
Color pencils and finally sketch pens!

When we started calculating
first with tables and then with
Clarke's tables and advanced to
Calculators and computers!

When we chased one another in the
corridors in Intervals, and returned to the classrooms
Drenched in sweat!

When we had lunch in classrooms, corridors,
Playgrounds,
under the trees and even in cycle sheds!

When all the colors in the world,
Decorated the campus on the Second Saturdays!

When a single P.T. period in the week's Time Table,
Was awaited more eagerly than the monsoons!

When cricket was played with writing pads as bats,
And Neckties and socks rolled into balls!

When few played
"kabadi" and "Kho-Kho" in scorching sun,
While others simply played
"book cricket" in the
Confines of classroom!

Of fights but no conspiracies,
Of Competitions but seldom jealousy!

when we used to
watch Live Cricket telecast,
In the opposite house in Intervals and Lunch breaks!

When few rushed at 3:45 to
"Conquer" window seats in our School bus!
While few others had "Big Fun", "peppermint",
"kulfi", " milk ice !" and "sharbat !" at 4o Clock!

Gone are the days
Of Sports Day,
and the annual School Day ,
And the one-month long
preparations for them.

Gone are the days
Of the stressful Quarterly,
Half Yearly and Annual Exams, And the most
enjoyed holidays after them!

Gone are the days
Of tenth and twelfth standards, when
We Spent almost the whole year writing revision tests!

We learnt,
We enjoyed,
We played,
We won,
We lost,
We laughed,
We cried,
We fought,
We thought.
With so much fun in them, so many friends,
So much experience, all this and more!

Gone are the days
When we used
to talk for hours with our friends!
Now we don't have time to say a `Hi'!

Gone are the days
When we played games on the road!
Now we
Code on the road with laptop!

Gone are the days
When we saw stars
Shining at Night!
Now we see stars when our code doesn't
Work!

Gone are the days
When we sat to chat with Friends on grounds!
Now we chat in chat rooms.....!

Gone are the days
Where we
studied just to pass!
Now we study to save our job!

Gone are the days
Where we had no money in our pockets and still fun filled on our hearts!!
Now we have the atm as well as credit card but with an empty heart!!

Where we shouted on the road!
Now we don't shout even at home

Where we got lectures from all!
Now we give lectures to all... like the one I'm doing now....!!

Falling Leaves

I was thinking of old friends today
And how many of them have slipped away,
Moved, got married, or stopped calling so much,
Found new friends, got busy, and lost touch.

It reminded me of falling leaves.

Every autumn the leaves fall from the trees
Some stay longer than the others,
But eventually – each leaf must fall, I am told,
Leaving the tree alone to face the cold

Why is it that in the time of utmost need
The leaves would seek to leave the tree?
And when we need our friends around
We look and they cannot be found?

Of course these friendships come and go

And in the spring new leaves will grow.
But I prefer autumn friends of old
With crackling laughter and color bold.

It saddens me now I must admit

Silent Moments

Have you ever experienced a moment in your life when you just ran out of words and you go...

The moment when you left your home for the first time and you look back at your parents who are worried that their son/daughter are leaving them yet happy that their child took the first step towards
Independence.

The moment when the girl/boy you like most smiled back at you! You don't say anything, you just smile back.

The moment when you are parting with your old friend(s) and the train has just started... and you are standing on the door of the wagon; waving "bye-bye" with your heart beating fast

The moment after the HR person has just called you and told you, “You are through”

The moment when you sit alone in your room after having told everyone that you cleared that exam you prepared for 6 months!!

The moment you knew you fell in love and a smile flashes on your face

The moment your loved one left you and a tear finds its way to the ground through your cheek

The moment you hear your baby’s first words

You can go on recollecting these special moments.

I had always wondered why I never said anything to me at those moments, as if it was "understood"... happiness, joy, pain; all feelings just flowed ceaselessly in the 'years' that passed in those flash moments!

I was thinking of changing my profile picture on Orkut.
I have been thinking for the past 4 weeks for doing the same.
I do not know the exact reason as to why I am thinking so much to change that pic.
I have kept that picture for a very long time.
Such a long time that people can easily recognize that the message sender is me if I scrap them.
But now, if I have to change my profile picture, it would take all my friends a little time to get adjusted to the new picture.
Same is the case with my mobile. I have been using a Samsung C110 for the past 4 years.
After all of us got into our jobs, many of my friends bought new mobiles, the latest in the market then. But I stuck to my C110. Friends ask me why don't I change the mobile and I have a standard answer: "what would you do with a camera+mp3+etc on a mobile? My samsung C110 was the means of communication keeping me in touch with all my family and friends for the past 4years. When I touch my mobile and see a number on the screen, I could see the person whoever is calling me. I have developed a special emotional feeling for it. I see a person, a good friend in that mobile. I don't want to change it".

For me, a mobile should serve the following purposes: "You should be able to hear the other person's voice over the call. And the other is, you should be able to view the message someone sends you". that's all. Nothing more than that. And yeah hey, my C110 has color screen and polyphonic ring tones too. So, that suffices my idea of a cellphone ( a colored one ). But I am afraid, I might have to switch to other mobile sooner or later because this one is 4years old. There doesn't seem to be any parts of this mobile available now in the market.

I do not know how I would feel when I will have to switch to a new mobile.
I would like to hear from my readers what's their opinion of a cell phone?
And yeah, if you can, please provide me with good mobiles out there in the market which suit my idea of a mobile :)

Change, I guess, is a part of everything and that's why someone truly said: "Nothing is constant except for change" :)

It so happened that I had no work today at office, and so, I sat down to write a blog post. The biggest question I face when I sit down to write a blog is the topic about which I should blog. I was trying to come up with a topic just when I recollected that I had a series of questions running in the back of my mind for a long time. I am posting those questions here to my blog readers. You are all welcome to answer these questions. I would love to hear your answers. I couldn’t come up with a concrete answer as such.

1.Does Life give Death a chance of winning during the Ultimate Fight or its Death, which gives Life a Chance?

2.How would you be prepared for something that you never thought of?

3.What lies behind the darkness when you close your eyes?

4.Why do people dream and what does it signify?

5.You must have heard of the saying: “You can only take a horse to the pond; however, you cannot make it drink water”. What can you do to make the horse drink water?

6.What is faith? Why do people believe in miracles?

7.How would you react and what would you like to do if you come to know that the world is going to come to an end in a week? What are things that you want to do?

8.What would you do if you are the only one living on this planet? Assume that you have everything.

9.Assume that you are standing in front of a mirror. Now, if you lift your left hand, it appears as if your image is moving the right hand. And if you move your right hand, your image will move the left hand. But, if you sit, your image also sits. If you stand, your image also stands. Why is it that the mirror shows you reversed image only in horizontal direction and not in the vertical direction?

Work or Service

This is after a long time that I am blogging again. Yeah, I know that I promised to blog more frequently and I also remember that I have a long list of topics to blog about. But, this post is not going to be on the topics that I mentioned already. This is something different.

Coming straight to the point, have you ever come across people who say that their work is routine? Have you come across people who say that they are getting bored with the kind of work that they do? Who say that Monday morning is the worst thing they ever want to face? Have you come across people who say they don’t enjoy working in the same company for a long time?

I always wonder why people say that they are bored with their work or that their work is no more challenging. It amuses me when people say “aargh… Monday morning. Not again”. I wonder what makes them say so. Do they find it so hard to come to office on a Monday morning? Or is it that they just want to sleep for a little more time on that morning? Whatever may be the case, is it not the same everyday? Waking up and going to office every day, do your work, improve yourselves, prove yourselves etc?

I happened to meet quite a few of my friends over the weekend. We were talking on all the topics under the sun when the topic of Work crept in. I do not remember who the culprit was who raised that topic, but I could see that the enthusiasm on everyone’s face is lost. Everyone became calm for a while and suddenly everyone started screaming “Work S***S, It’s Cr*p, $##@%^@#$”

It took me a while to realize what was happening. Everyone was so frustrated with their jobs that they want to leave the company they are working with and join another company where the work would be more challenging and interesting. There was one fellow in particular who wanted to go for MS or MBA or this or that or some other but the last thing he wanted to do was to continue working in the same company. After a long hour of discussion on the topic, we decided that we should go for lunch and then sleep for sometime.

After having lunch at about an odd hour of 4.30PM, all of us retired to doze off for a while. Then…

P1: “I am so disgusted with my job man. It’s been one year and I don’t find anything challenging in my company. Neither does my job satisfy me. That job can be done by even a college student.”

P2: “Why don’t you try for a better job with better pay and interesting work?”

P1: “I am thinking about that option. I just don’t know what to do. Should I go for an MS or MBA or job shift or whatever?”

ME: “Even better, just take a break? :P”

P1: “Stop it. No jokes man. Come on! I am fed up of doing the same routine daily”

ME: “Same routine? What do you call a same routine? Do you write the same code every day?”

P1: “Orey… No jokes please. If only I were a stupid, I would write the same lines of code everyday”

ME: “Then, what is it that you say you are doing the same everyday? Your everyday routine”

P1: “I was given a project to handle; very big one and challenging in the beginning. I had to write some components and etc. I finished developing my components when there were some changes that came up and I had to restructure my code and etc. I have finished my development about 3 months ago and am still modifying my code to accommodate all the changes that are coming up. It’s like everyday I go to office and change the same lines of code that I wrote the previous day.”

ME: “Hmmm. Okay. What is it that you think would interest you now?”

P1: “I just don’t know. I want to get out of that project, that company as soon as possible. I will either go for MBA or MS or job shift”

ME: “Do you really think that would serve your purpose? Is that what you really want? I know you are frustrated. Do not ever take decisions when you are frustrated. Stay calm. Be at peace with yourselves and then think what is it that you want to do?”

P1: “I have thought about it man. I just don’t want to be in that company anymore”

ME: “And why is that?”

P1: “Already told you the reasons”

ME: “Just because you have to rewrite the same piece of code everyday, you want to leave your job. Is it?”

P1: “Yes”

ME: “Okay. Let’s keep that aside. Do you think other companies won’t have this routine?”

P1: “They do, but I hope not to this extent”

ME: “You hope. What would you do if it turns out that the other company has the same type of work? Leave that company as well? MS or MBA?”

P1: “I haven’t thought about it. MS or MBA is an option I am trying to look at”

ME: “dude, look around you. Look at yourselves. All you need is just a break from work. Go on a trip to some place, refresh yourselves and get back to work. If you really wanted to quit your job, you would have had things set in your way. You wouldn’t be floating between options.”

P1: “No. I just can’t do that work every day after the other”

ME: “hmmm. Try thinking of the work that you do as a service to the company”

P1: “What difference does it make?”

ME: “you are complaining that you have got to do the same kind of work for the past 6 months or so. Tell me, have you ever got bored of things at home?”

P1: “If I understand it correctly, No”

ME: “you are right. Your mom cooks for you everyday. You take care of things at home everyday. Your dad takes care of you everyday. You don’t tend to get bored to things like these at home even though you have lived with it for 20 odd years. Why does such a small thing as change disturb you so much that it made you feel like quitting the job?”

P1: “Those are things at home and this is work. Don’t you think both are different? How can you compare both of them?”

ME: “I am not comparing both of them. I am just asking you to view them in similar manner. You enjoy your personal roles. Don’t you?”

P1: “Yes. I don’t mind cleaning my house everyday. I don’t get bored doing the same routine at home everyday.”

ME: “Precisely the point. You do something at home and its service that you do. Your mother cooks food to all of you because the mother serves others and because of this service mindedness, she is not feeling tired or bored. But in an office, we "Work" and not "Serve". Anything we consider, as service will not make us feel bored. That is difference between Serving and Working.”

P1: “Hmmm okay. Probably I would need sometime to think about the analysis. This is an interesting analysis I should say.”

ME: “Whenever you put a larger context around your work and see a broader meaning for your work, you will take interest in your work and it will make a very big difference in your internal energy.”

P1: “Attitude Matters!!!”

ME: “True. If you think you are working for the organization you will get frustrated. If you feel you are doing a service and getting some service charges you will feel happy. After all doing what you like is freedom but liking what you do is happiness! It is just a paradigm shift that is required!”

P1: “Great!!! Never knew you can talk so philosophical. You are good at this man”

ME: *laughs* “ I actually never found a bakra like you :P”

With that ended the conversation and all of us went to sleep J

All in all, It was a very good trip

Writing with Intent

In any corporate environment, you come across situations where in you need to communicate with different people from different backgrounds through writing. Whether you're preparing a brief e-mail response, a business letter, a performance review, a multi-page proposal, or a presentation to a prime customer, you know that having a job means having to write. But if you're not a trained writer, how do you begin? This post addresses these defining matters, which you need to consider every time you sit down to write. This post includes excerpts on how to link your writing to its purpose, how to modify your writing for different readers and audiences, and how to approach your content in a manner that supports the message type.

Many people know exactly what they want to say, but when they write, their ideas become vague and unclear. The writing process actually starts before you pick up a pen or place your fingers on a keyboard. It begins with defining what you are writing, for whom you are writing, why you are writing, and which writing approach to use. Business writing doesn’t need style, it needs clarity. Clarity partly comes from knowing whom you are writing to and why.

Before you start writing, do you stop to consider your audience? Do you think about what you are trying to accomplish as a result of your writing? I will try to show you how to use information about your readers and your writing purpose to quickly select and write an appropriate message of any type. These instructions apply to almost any kind of business writing from memos to proposals to lengthy reports.

You should take into consideration two important things before you write any business communication

Your intended audience – know them
Purpose – writing with purpose – Inform, Respond, Persuade

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

When you are talking to your colleague in the office, you do not shout at the top of your voice. When you’re standing at a podium in front of an audience, you don’t chat casually with your friend in the front row. Similarly, identifying the composition of your audience is as important when you’re writing to them as talking to them. Recipients of your communication differ in every situation and your writing should be tailored accordingly.

What are the advantages? When writing to different audiences, identifying their roles and characteristics helps you to:

- Set your writing at the appropriate tone

- Use the appropriate level of detail

- Select the appropriate salutation

Writing tone

Let’s say there are two people in your team who have been working on a project for the last 6 months. There’s a fresher who joined in your team. Let’s say you have to write a mail on the status of the project/clarifying some questions in the project you can do so at a much higher level including the technical details and etc to the old members in the team. The new joined member has to be informed in detail as to what the project is about, what is it tying to achieve and all necessary information has to be provided to him so that he can understand the project and your communication well. So, while informing the team about the update, you would send out separate emails to senior members in the team and beginners in the team. Email to the senior members consists of the most important ideas at the beginning. Beginners would benefit from a more advisory or helpful tone which uses indirect language and many supporting details. References or resource materials could also be included to answer any potential questions they may have.

Salutation

Choosing a salutation can be difficult if you do not know your reader’s gender or whether they preferred to be addressed by their first name or last name. In such cases, call the recipients office and know about them. Or, use a subject like “to whomsoever it may concern”.

Once you have identified some of the characteristics of your readers, try personalizing your writing for them. Every person wants to feel connected to the communication that is sent to them. Excellent writers make sure they connect to their audience in their writing. Try to establish a personal connection with the reader. This will help you. The more personal the message, the more attention it will get from the reader.

“Hello, I am writing to request the guest accommodations be made on my behalf at the Nova Hotel next Thursday and Friday. I would appreciate staying in the same room as last time. Thank you in advance.”

Here is the same message rewritten to personalize the message and to make it friendlier.

“Dear Steve,

I would like to request your assistance in making guest accommodations at the Nova Hotel next Thursday and Friday. You provided me with an excellent room last time, Steve, and I would appreciate staying in the same room. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sincerely,

The Customer

P.S: I’d like to see the new receptionist you were talking about recruiting that day.”

A few carefully chosen words can make an enormous difference in the impression that your writing makes on your audience. Personal touches create a connection with your reader and give your message an added significance.

There are four different tones

- Informal/conversational (coworkers)

- Formal (Clients, customers and the public)

- Economical and direct (superiors)

- Authoritative (Subordinates)

How each of these is used in various situations can be explained.

Now that we have an understanding of the writing style, lets look into the writing purpose

Writing with Purpose

Most business documents serve one or more of the following purposes:

- to inform

- to respond

- to persuade

People who are good at conversations struggle a lot when it comes to writing down their thoughts. This is because in conversation, your purpose may change quickly in response to your listener. But when you write, you need to recognize and convey your purpose clearly.

“First of all, defining your writing purpose helps you to establish what you hope to accomplish with your document. Do you want to inform the reader of a new development, respond to a letter or complaint, or persuade the user to buy your software?”

“That’s okay but, can you tell me why do I have to define my purpose precisely?”

“When you define your purpose clearly, you can select the message type that will serve your purpose most effectively. You won’t waste your time and your readers’ time on things that are irrelevant to your purpose.”

“I think I understand now. Defining my purpose helps me determine what I want to accomplish, select the appropriate message type and get the response that I need from my reader. That’s a big gain for a small effort”.

Nuclear deal

NUCLEAR AGREEMENT BETWEEN INDIA AND USA

There’s a mail that’s circling around everyone’s inbox these days which explains some of the important points about why there’s so much fuss about nuclear deal between India & USA that almost led to the topple of Central Government. This post tries to explain the technical & commercial aspects of the nuclear deal. This is in sync with the mail.

What is 123 Agreement?

This is called 123 Agreement because this comes under USA's Atomic Power Act Section 123.
Let's see the points about the 123 Agreement.

(1) If this agreement occurs between India & USA, USA will supply all fuel, machinery / equipment & technology to India for producing Nuclear Power.

(2) All these days, India is producing power as well as Atom from about 22 Nuclear Power Plants. It's a highly confidential secret that, from where, what is produced, how much is produced, where it is supplied, what research is being done with that, etc. to anybody. But if we sign this Agreement, we have to disclose these secrets and also agree to 14 of our Nuclear Power Plants to be under the scanner of International Atomic Power Organization.

(3) The fuel utilized to produce Atomic Power can be recycled for reuse and this plant will be under direct supervision of IAPO.

If India does nuclear test, this agreement gets cancelled. But

(1) USA will take back all the machinery / equipments / technology supplied to India thus far.

(2) Those 14 plants will continue to be under scanner irrespective of the status of the agreement.

On the other hand, if any of the commitments given by USA is breached by them, then there is no clause for cancelling this agreement.

The agreement is apparently like this... USA can either hug India or slap India. India does not have the option to ask why are we hugged or why are we slapped.
On the other hand, India cannot hug or slap USA for breach of agreement.

This is only capsule so that easy to read and digest.

The most important requirement for India 's Economic Growth in the coming years will be the power & infrastructure. The argument put forth favoring the 123 Agreement says that we need Nuclear Power Production to be increased to meet the demand.

Hydel Power 26%

Solar & Wind Power 5% - Presently Rs.600 Crores are spent for producing this power.

Nuclear Power 3% - If this is to be increased to 6%, it requires additional Rs.50,000 Crores.

Naturally it will be wise to increase other 3 modes of power production rather than the expensive & dangerous Nuclear Power. Isn't it??

URANIUM

We used to import Uranium from various other countries, but After the Pokran Test, we are not getting it. To augment the supply, we need to sign the 123 Agreement to get Uranium from USA. But we will have to disclose to USA, the power plant, from which India takes raw material for producing Atom Bomb. Why should we disclose our internal secrets to the US? Will any one allow an outsider to continuously monitor what's happening in your Hall & Kitchen of your house? Other study reveals that Uranium is available in India aplenty. Only hurdle is the acquisition of land. To produce Atomic Power & Bomb in the next 40 years, the requirement of Uranium is 25,000 MT whereas the availability is 78,000 MT across India.

PLUTONIUM

Presently 35% of Plutonium is used to produce Atomic Bombs. After signing the Agreement, we will be allowed to use only 10%.

THORIUM

As told by Dr.APJ, we have abundant Thorium. In fact we are the 2^nd largest producer of Thorium next only to Australia. India has to explore this further for producing power. For your information, in South India - particularly around Kanyakumari, the availability of Thorium is abundant.

INDIA-IRAN-CHINA

USA does not like the amicable relationship between India-Iran and also India-China. If India-China relationship gets stronger, then both these can rule the Eastern Part of the Globe which USA wants to break as per their divide & rule.

By signing this agreement, USA wants India to depend on it for producing power which is going to be a crucial factor in future. There is a talk of bringing Natural Gas from Iran to India with a big pipeline project. USA doesn't like this proposal.

Atomic Power Technology

Whether power is produced or Bomb is produced; using Atomic power without spoiling the infrastructure and without allowing the radiation is always under threat. Moreover preserving the wastes coming out of Atomic Power Plants is expensive & unsafe.

There was an accident in Three Miles Island in USA. To close this plant nearly USD 200 Crores spent with tons & tons of concrete but yet to be fully closed.

In another accident at Soviet Union's Serbia Plant, even the next generation children are affected due to the radiation.

It will be very expensive to defuse & close down an Atomic Power Plant than its construction cost.

France

France has got 56 Nuclear Power stations producing 73% of the country's total power requirement. They are catching up the problem of eliminating the wastes / emissions from out of those plants at the same time increase the power production capacity. Government of France is now thinking how to reduce the power consumption in the country.

Conclusion

In view of the above danger, rather than signing the agreement and pledging India to USA , it will be prudent to increase the Solar & Wind Energy and more importantly Hydro Power Production can be increased by linking all rivers across India and by constructing DAMS. (Of course Dam construction projects can be given to L&T's B&F Sector:-)

The whole process of this Agreement started in the year 2005 when Manmohan visited USA. In a span of just 2 years a major decision of signing this agreement has taken place with political motive. On the contrary, neither this Government nor any other earlier Central Government could not amend the Constitution thereby nationalize the rivers across the country thereby effectively utilize the water resources for both Agriculture purpose and producing Hydel Power. What an irony?

Whenever someone is helping the needy, you can't expect the TERMS AND CONDITIONS BETWEEN THE needy and the helper to be EQUAL??? BUT

(1) the helper's ulterior motive should be seen with broad eye because he is capable of digging a grave behind you and

(2) better to be self-sufficient and explore new avenues with available resources.

INDIA-CHINA-USA

India is very rich in Culture; follow Religions, Value Ethics, Level of Education is Very Good.

China is also rich in Culture, follow Religion, better disciplined.

USA wants power over others. Particularly wants a firm footing in South Asia. Remember the introduction EURO by European Countries and it is stronger than Dollar? So their "DAL" cannot be boiled at "EUROPE ". They are trying in India as already Pakistan is in their clutches.

I was going through my hard disk after a long time and found this entry somewhere in a folder named "Diary". So, pasting it here..

It was the 13th of january, 2007. Over a year has passed..

Wrote some test early in the morning at 6. Redpine
Had no hopes of qualifying in it and same happened. Dint qualify
Then there was ADP test
Wrote it and returned with no hopes of qualifyin in that too

While having breakfast, someone informed that Me, Satti and kasi were shortlisted for the interview. I was more than delighted and had this feeling in the back of my head that I would get selected today.

Went in to the interview room. Surprisingly, the first round is a HR round and then the technical round.

HR interview::

Monisha Meghdjani is the HR MM

ME : Good morning
MM : Good morning Rakesh. How are you doing today?
ME : I am doing fine. how about you?

MM : I am doing good too. Tell me about yourselves which is not listed on the resume
ME : You mean, about my family and all??
MM : Yes

ME : *Told the story*

Dad works in Singareni Colleries. His job has transfers and we keep moving from one place to another frequently. Did my schooling in six different schools. Whichever school I was in, brought laurels to it by participating in different events like elocution, quiz, sports etc. Then, in10th, mom asked us to shift from sports to studies. that's why you can see an increase in the percentage of marks from 86% in 10th to 96% in intermediate.

MM : But, why is your B.Tech score less??

ME : We, a batch of 22 people couldn't get into IIIT in the first couneslling. There were some people who dropped their seats for IITs. So, there was a second counselling and we got into IIIT in the second phase and 2 months late. So, our first sem ended in just two n a half months. And, I have two brothers. One completed his Btech from REC Trichy and MS from UMich and is right now working for Qualcomm in Sandiego. The other, he has done his Btech from NIT Surathkal and working for Ashok Leyland in Banglore now. Both being from RECs, they told me how graduation life would be fun. Read before a few days of examinations andyou are thru. I entered IIIT with that mindset and its different here. In the first month of our joining here, we used to work till 11 in the night just to cope up with others and finish the assignments. I never did that in my intermediate :( So, I would say that the reason is unable to cope up

MM : So, you blame yourselves for the decrease in percentage?

ME : 30% on myself

MM : the rest?? *looking surprised*

ME : on the institutioon

MM : how??? *still looking surprised*

ME : They should have taken some care of us initially. They just rushed thru the portion and within one week, combined us with the regular guys who are way ahead of us. So, its institute's fault

MM : *confused* hmmm.. but ur SGPA was increasing sem by sem

ME : *smiles* yeah,, in the first year, I dint play anything here. It was tough coping up with others and managing our own time with classes, tutorials etc. Then, in the second year, I started playing volleyball and scored 68% compared to 63% in the first year. then in the third year, I played football for the university and scored 71% in academics. In the final year, played everyhing that i can come across and I now stand with a percentage of 74. So, I guess i wud contribute my increase in percentage of score to playing and keeping my mind fresh. I realized that there must be a good blend of sports and fun in your academic life to keep ur mind fresh all the time.

MM : You talk a lot.

ME : Must be :)

MM : Tell me more about yourselves. Other than sports. Your hobbies? Music etc?

ME : I never listened to music. I like adventures and third sunday of every month, I go for rock-climbing with the "Society to Save Rocks" people. They conduct rock-climbing trips around hyderabad once a month and its fun meeting new people.

MM : You said you never listened to music. Why's that?

ME : I have a speaker system that has a power of just 70Watts. I am surrounded by people who have a 4000Watt Speaker System. Even if I put my speaker on the top of its volume, I wasn't able to hear to songs on my pc which I liked to listen. I always listend to music on other's pcs :)

MM : so, you dont do any other things?

ME : I do. I find everything interesting.

MM : hmmm,, okay,, Aren't you interested in MS??

ME : No, My brother, Suresh, he tells me that MS is of no use if you are not planning to do Ph.D Instead of going for MS, try putting into practise the things and everything that you learnt in your 4 years of graduation i.e., by doing a job. If you are not satisfied with the results then, then go for MS or MBA or whatever you are intersted in.

MM : Okay, what if you dont get a job? *was checking my confidence* *was expecting a answer like, I would get a job for sure*

ME : I will open my own botique.

MM : Botique?

ME : Yes. I have this habbit of observing people when I go out on weekends to different places. I observe the way the people are dressed, their hairstyle, their matchings and all. I compliment them if I feel everything's perfect and if I feel its not right, I think of ways to improve the way they look.

MM : Like?

ME : Like, lets take you as an example. Since you were here to recruit people on an official purpose, you are simple, but, a chain around the neck looks good on any girl and a glossy red top will look good with hair let loose. And a bit of mascara with nail polish :)

MM : you do observe a lot.

ME : Yes. And the idea of opening a botique originated when I started designing shirts and gifts for my friends. I have a couple of shirts designed for myself. Gifted both the brothers with a shirt each. Gifts were designed keeping in mind the nature and the likes and dislikes of the person

MM : Gifts for girlfriends?

ME : My mom would be quite happy if I find a girlfriend. not gfs. but yeah, definitely for girls. No guy likes a teddy bear being given to him as a gift on his birthday

MM : You have so many ideas. Why dont you go for botique then. why software?

ME : I haven't done any market research on the botiques. And I dont have that many ideas that I could live on it for a long. And people say that you cant work in software industry for more than ten years. So, i would put to test the skills that I have learnt in these four years, horn them and in the free time, do the market research, come up with more ideas and when I feel I want to shift, would shift to that botique

MM : you are a blend of ideas. What's your wierdest idea?

ME : Its something like this. We three brothers want to buy an island when we are retired so that we can have fun on the island. But by that time, we are not sure if we would find a island that we can buy. So, we decided that we wud buy about 1000 acres in a far away village, dig around it and pour water in it.

MM : *bursts into laughs* that's it??

ME : instead of sitting idle on that island, we planned to develop it as a fun place like water world or something so that people can come and spend their weekend there. More of a resort kind of stuff

MM : hmmm.. pretty interesting ideas. You told me a lot about yourselves. Tell me, If i am to ask you to name your greatest weakness, what would it be?

ME : aaa, I never found any weekness in me, but if you insist on naming one, my friends call me a perfectionist.

MM : Were you prepared for this question?

ME : No. They gave me that "Mr.Perfect" title because whatever I try to do, I do it in the most perfect manner. Whenever I cook, read, design, document or do anything, I try to do it the perfect way. And for example, in cooking, I decorate the dish before its served

MM : You cook too??

ME : Yes, I can cook. Learnt it while at home from my mother when i was in 10th. I was all alone at home and I used to irritate my mom when I got bored. So, she taught me all these cooking and house-hold stuff

MM : Hmmm.. I think we can go on talking about yourselves. I must interview the other guys too. So, sit in the next room. We will call you for the technical interview. Would like you to get thru it. I want to see you in ADP :)

ME : *gets up. smiles* I would love too,, to see you in a red top with a chain :)

MM : *smiles"

While we were talking, Monisha made some notes on the empty side of the paper on out resumes. She was noting personal details and etc.

I was the sixth one to be called in. And one fellow was rejected already because he dint do the HR round properly. I am quite happy that I did the HR well. Infact, I could tell her everything that I do pretty confidently. Satish, Kasi and ten others were thru with the HR round. We all are waiting for our Technical round. We were informed that technical would be after lunch. So, we all went to lunch and were back in the room.

The time was around 3 in the afternoon and the room was tensed. One by one, people were called in for the technical interview. First one to go was Sidharth ravi as far as I remember. Then, Raja pradeep and so on. After they are back from the room, we discussed what they asked them and were ready with those answers.

I was called in. The guy who interviewed was around 40 and was wearing a Blue shirt with ADP written on it. Here goes the interview..

*He had my resume upon which MM made notes*

ME : Good afternoon sir

HE : Good afternoon, take your seat

ME : thank you sir *sits*

HE : hmmm,, so, you are the designer guy? *puts up a surprising face*

ME : yes sir, I am

HE : Okay, If I were to ask you to design a t-shirt for me, how would it be?

ME : Sir, you are in a high position in the company. So, it must be professional and at the sametime classy. It must be a collared shirt with stripes so that it looks good on you. ADP, the logo can be printed either in the place of the pocket or on the edge of the shoulders. *and so on*

HE : *seemed to be pretty impressed by the approach*. Okay, so, you have two brothers

ME : Yes sir.

HE : How come you three managed to do well in studies?

ME : Sir, its a long story. Generally in a family, one fellow will turn out to be the black-sheep when there are three children. When both the brothers made it to REC, the whole of my family was looking forward for me not to be the blacksheep and I guess I stood up to the mark. It wouldnt have been possible if it was not for our mother who sat with us in the childhood and imparted this will to study in us.

HE : that's a pretty long story *laughs* . Why dint you go for NITs or RECs??

ME : Sir, keeping in mind that both my brothers went to RECs, I tried my best to score well in the entrance examinations and get into NITs. But, it was with our batch, from 2003, that there was a change in the pattern of EAMCET and also all the NITs RECs and Deemed universities took students who secured a good rank in AIEEE. Inspite of all these, I managed to get into NIT Surathkal in the Mining course but, my dad who hails from a mining background avoided me taking it. Then, I took a seat in CBIT in the ECE branch through EAMCET and was preparing myself to join there just when a guy informed me that IIIT is considering going for second counselling. So, I applied here and made it here and am quite happy with my decision.

HE : MM made a note that you talk much and so do you. But you are upto the point and precise

ME : *with glowing eyes and full of confidence that I am thru* Thank you sir.

HE : Okay, lets get into technical stuff now. Tell me how many sorting algorithms do you know

ME : Sir, I know Insertion sort, Shell sort, Quick Sort, Merge Sort, Heap sort, Bucket Sort

HE : That's all.. There's one more basic and the simplest sorting algorithm one can think of

ME : *cant remember it. looks in the air for a while and bingo* aa yes sir,, bubble sort

HE : Write the code

ME : okay sir. Here' the algorithm, how it works and the code for it *wrote the code*

HE : You have a pretty good coding conventions.

ME : thank you sir *now, I was sure that I am through*

HE : Okay, Can i ask you some more questions..

ME : Definitely sir. *thinking that he would ask me technical*

HE : You played volleyball for your university in 2005 and football in 2006. Why is this change?

ME : Oh.. The shift was because of the change in interest. We have a pretty good number of volleyball players who can play at the university level. There are four players who played at district/state level. So, training new people in volleyball is not a problem. Later on after that tournament, I somehow found interest in football and shifted to it and within one week from goin to the ground, I made it to the team that had to play with HCU. So, I continued with football. I still play volleyball for the house and batch.

HE : So, your interests keep changing??

ME : No sir,, as long as the interest is challenging, I stick to it. I still play volleyball, I still go for rock-climbing, I still design shirts and stuff. Its like I take interest in some other field at the same time I try to fine tune my skills in the existing field.

HE : fair enough answer. So, where do you play.. football?

ME : in the ground in our college, sometimes in the Gachibowli Stadium

HE : No no,, not that. which position

ME : Sir, I am the central back for my team. *was cursing myself for thinking so stupid*. I take control of the defence. I co-ordinate with the left back and right back and the goal keeper and I take decisions in the defence. I was entitled that responsibility and I stood up to the expectations of the team members. I know my responsibility on the field and act accordingly. If the ball misses me, since I am the last one in the defence, there's a high chance of the other team scoring a goal.

HE : So, you do know your responsibility. Are you the captain for your team? I see that you won the inter-house football this year and you seem to be a university player.

ME : Yes sir, I am the captain for my house but, at the university level, there's another guy name Raja, he's the captain.

HE : How come they dint win the inter-house tournament?

ME : Sir, he's a good player, definitely a far better player than me in the forward, but I have got a good team and I consider that as the reason for our success.

HE : hmmm,, What other sports/games do you play?

ME : Sir, I played everything I came across. Starting from marbles in the childhood to snooker and billiards too. You name a game and I would have already played it.

HE : I see the reason now why you scored only 74% in your BTech

ME : I think sir, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". I always liked the way I am. I believed in a over-all development of myself and instead of scoring 90 and being good at nothing else, I thought I would become a jack of all trades and infact, I mastered some :)

HE : *seems pretty impressed* okay, the interview is now over. Do you think you can make it to ADP?

ME : I already started thinking of a design for ADP in my mind

HE : *laughs* Good. Will see you in the evening at the results.

ME : *gets off from the chair, shakes hands with him and* Thank you Sir

One by one went in and came out of the interview rooms. No one was inside the room for as long as I was in. MM announced that the results would be announced at 6 in the evening and we all could get refreshed and come back. None came out of the room except for me and Kasi karthik.

Time : 6'o clock

Place : Back in the waiting room

MM and the other guys from ADP came into the waiting room with a list of people selected into ADP. We were eagerly waiting for our results. Everyone was tensed. Then, Monisha started announcing the names after a short speech. One by one, the names were called out

Upon hearing our names, Satish and me were quite happy and are out of words but, a look at Kasi told us that we must console him. He broke out that day. He was frustrated, depressed and all since he cudnt make such a simple interview too. We consoled him, hugged him, tapped him and did everything that we could. Got him a cool drink to wet his mouth and all. Then, handed him to Saras and Shivudu and left the room. As I was getting down the stairs, my legs started dancing and I was jumping shouting " I am selected, I got a job ".

Came back to room. Took a bath. Called home and bros and informed everyone on the list that I got into ADP. Some are quite happy, some so so. Krishnaveni and Nikhila were quite happy, atleast they sounded so. Started to home at around 10 in the night and reached home early in the morning. I told my friends that I would burn the formal clothes of interview on bhogi in the bonfire. I dint :)

I believe that there comes a time when, no matter how much effort you put in to your work; no matter how hard you try to keep yourselves motivated; no matter how much you changed to fit in the environment, there will be people who say it’s not enough. Just because someone’s not reaching someone else’s expectation, it doesn’t mean that he’s not giving his 100% to reach what he’s expected to.

I think I am confusing all you readers. FYI, I myself am confused. Let me put it in a straight forward way. OH YEAH. That was the dialogue HE said when I entered his room.

HE: Rakesh!! Let me put it straight. I received feedback from the people you work with and I myself have noticed that you are not being at your desk regularly. I don’t see you at your desk.

This sends wrong signals.

ME: *thinking what WRONG SIGNALS mean*

HE: I myself have noticed that you are not in your seat when I enter the office

ME: *realizes the situation*

Now, the situation:

For the past 2months, I used to come to office at 9.30 and leave at 6 due to dance classes in the evening and football practice in the mornings. Sometimes the log-in time would be 10 because of the practice. All that practice and events finished three weeks ago. I performed dance on stage and we came runners-up in the challenger trophy of 3^rd royal sports tournament.

Having achieved all this, I was expecting some boost from the members of team, which I never did. I had this thing running in the back of my head that, I was coming late to office and leaving early. Now that all the events and tournaments are over, I made up my mind that I will show some dedication to work. So, for the past 3 weeks, I am at office by 9.30 and was leaving the office only after 6.30 in the evening. He, my PM was on leave the whole last week. He returned couple of days ago. He doesn’t know that I am in office by 9.30. He comes at 10.45 or so, during which I will not be at my desk. I will be either in 7^th floor brunching or at the coffee machine.

That’s what he noticed and that’s what made him make that statement.

And I decided that I will explain him the things. So

**** BACK TO THE SCENE*******

ME: *sits down to explain the situation* Hmmm. I must contradict you on that statement you just made. If you have observed me properly, for the last two weeks, I have been at my desk from 9.30 – 6.30. You can ask the other members of the team about the same. I think you haven’t seen me at my desk when you are logging in and that’s what made you think like that.

HE: *looks at me for a while* So, you think Managers get bad feedback?

ME: I am not saying that. I am trying to say Managers might not interpret it in a good sense

HE: As a manager, don’t you think I know what all you do?

ME: You can, but I say managers are all not always right. Sometimes they don’t know how to make use of the resources available to them. Bad management of resources J

HE: I keep wondering how you can come up with such thoughts and reasons

ME: I just think you need to be a bit weird and different from others

HE: No. seriously, every time I have a chat with you, I find some new point/angle.

ME: thanks J

HE: Aren’t you afraid that I am a senior, you are a junior

ME: *takes that point* NO. I align myself with company’s culture which says “no senior/junior. Everyone’s an associate” And why should I be afraid? I haven’t done anything wrong.

HE: Hmmm. You are repeating my words to me? Huh?

ME: Just citing the sentence

HE: Tell me Rakesh, how do you prioritize things in your life?

ME: Well, for me, Personal benefit comes first, then profession. Priorities keep varying depending upon the situation

HE: what is it that you believe in profession?

ME: Hmmm. Tough question, but I have my answer. I believe that every profession that you do is to make money for yourselves and generate revenue for the company you are working for. When I was taken into this company, you must have had a project in hand for which you must have thought that my skills would be helpful and that I would be able to handle that work. Now, lets say once the project is over, you are trying to rest me/put me on bench for about a month/couple of months or trying to push me into some other entirely new thing which I am not interested in, I don’t see any point in staying with the company then. I believe that everything is business. You employed me for the skills that I have, you made use of those skills, made money and now that there’s no work which can make use of my skills, you are trying to push me here and there. I must think the same. I have used my skills, finished the work and I must look forward to another situation where my skills can be used. Once your requirement of using my skills is done, my purpose of serving you is also done. So, look for some other place which serves my purpose. That’s what I believe.

HE: So, you say that once you are pushed from APPS to some other team, you will quit

ME: I must say you have excellent managerial skills. You consolidate a page into a single line J

HE: You are just 21 right? How is it that you have such a huge thought?

ME: I can attribute that to friends I have ranging from 6-60 J They pour in a lot of experience. I listen to them and gain knowledge from them. Good to have friends you know?

HE: 6 – 60? How’s that possible?

ME: Different places, different communities. I am a regular member to the trips conducted by Society to Save Rocks, I dance, I trek, I explore. All these require different communities and groups. Joining them helps you make new friends and gain new directions. I joined some cookery classes, painting classes, dance classes. Those are the places where you can make more and more friends.

HE: Hmmm, you enjoy your life a lot, don’t you?

ME: *wat crap? Doesn’t he enjoy his life?* Yes, I do. I want to live a life of Happiness as of now. Then, after I turn 25, I want to live a life of Meaning.

HE: Huh? Aren’t the two same? Life of Happiness and Life of Meaning

ME: No, They are two very different paths. If you need to be truly happy, a man must live absolutely in the present; no thought of what’s gone before and no thought of what lies ahead, but, Life of Meaning, a man is condemned to wallow in the past and be obsessed about the future.

HE: *With a stunned face* you talk as if you have seen a whole life.

ME: Ha ha. No. I watch a lot of seasons, serials and movies and I pick some interesting lines from them and believe in them. I believe in some of the lines and follow some.

HE: So, what principles do you believe at work?

ME: I believe that “doing nothing is very hard to do. You never know when you are finished”.

HE: Hmmm yeah, that’s why I keep giving you something or the other work. Something is better than nothing, right? *a bright glow can be seen on his face*

ME: Yes, Something is better than nothing; agreed, but, I believe that nothing is better than non-sense.

HE: *Glow on his face lost*

ME: Hmmm. That’s the reason why I keep doing random things. If I get bored in one thing, I start off with the other. Cooking, dancing, playing etc is all a part of things to keep myself busy.

HE: So, you believe in lot of principles. Can you quote some famous lines which everyone knows?

ME: okay. Here are some:

Patience is a virtue. It’s always good to be patient.

Time answers everything

If you want something and if you try your best to achieve it, you will get it.

ME: Yeah, you heard it right. I want to spend my life peacefully; away from the noise and pollution of this city traffic and what better place to live other than an island?

HE: So, you are planning to buy an island. Let me tell you, there aren’t any left.

ME: Don’t you think I know that? I will buy myself 100acres of land in some far away village. I will dig around it and pour water in it. After a couple of years, I will start developing it into a resort or a theme park. Within that time, the city will expand till that place too. So, I will have visitors to my place, whom I can charge and generate money. That way, even after I am retired, I would still be earning enough to support my family.

HE: Don’t you think I can copy your idea and make some money

ME: No. One can never become someone who he’s not destined to be.

ME: Yes. And that’s why I like them. They consist of both optimistic and pessimistic views so that I hope for the best and plan for the worst.

HE: Why be both optimistic and pessimistic? Why can’t you just be diplomatic?

ME: *dint get his question but decides to answer* Optimists and pessimists both contribute equally to the society. Optimists invented airplanes and pessimists, the parachute. If I can be both an optimist as well as a pessimist, I have the advantage of two worlds. If I were to be a diplomat, taking a neutral stance, I would have invented neither an airplane nor a parachute.

HE: Why airplanes? Why not some other example?

ME: That’s because I want to see the whole world before I start constructing my island. I want to fly to different places. I saw an episode once on Discovery channel “1000 places to see in your life”. I want to cover all those places.

HE: How do you plan to?

ME: In order to go around the world, I could find two options. One is to become a pilot and then go around the world on your profession. Other is to become a consultant/whatever and get a job that would require you to move around the world. Marketing/consulting etc J

HE: hmmm. Quite a big plan.

ME: Yeah, guess these were with me for a long time.

HE: Hmmm. anything else interesting?

ME: Guess I have taken too much of your time. I will stop now. I will keep informing you as and when I come up with something new.

And that’s how it ended. It took more than an hour to explain him what I believe in and what I think is true according to me.

RD: Hello

KT: How was your day?

RD: It was good, as always. Work was good. Dance was a bit tiresome.

KT: why do you all these things which make you feel tired?

RD: That’s where I find a bit of enjoyment and they help me keep busy.

KT: What is it that keeps you motivated all the time?

RD: Whata? What question is that? My belly is what keeps me motivated. Well, not belly exactly, but the idea of reducing its size.

KT: na, really, how do you manage to keep yourselves busy all the time?

RD: oh, you are talking about that. Well, it’s just a matter of planning.

KT: Planning?

RD: Yeah, time management to be precise. I exercise, work, learn dance, cook, meet friends, talk to people, swim, play football etc

KT: How do you manage your time for all these things?

RD: It’s simple. Chalk out the major tasks that you cannot ignore and list out the minor events that you can ignore.

Major ones are: office work if you are an employee; college if you are a student; etc

Minor ones are: these include tasks that can be postponed to some other day.

KT: Well that’s fine. You said you cook, work, dance, swim, play football and etc. how do you handle them?

RD: Let me try and explain you with the help of an example.

Everyday, I go to work from 9-7.

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays I have a dance class from 7 – 8 in the evening

Saturdays and Sundays I cook for myself, play football in the morning, sometimes meet friends.

This is on a higher level.

If I go to a detailed level, there are things that you should plan with other fellows.

For example, you cannot play a football game by yourselves. You play it with a team.

So, playing football would be a team activity for which all members should take out time from their day and meet at the time they decided. Even dance would require the same.

So, for me, some of the majors include:

Work – everyday

Dance – Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 7 – 8 in the night

Football – Saturday and Sunday 7 – 9 in the morning

Then, let’s say I want to learn some musical instrument on my own, or cooking, this can be done alone.

So, things that can be done by your own can be classified into minor ones.

Now, with all this information, let’s see how a time-chart looks like for all the seven days of a week.

My day typically starts at 7 and ends between 2300 and 2400hrs.

This is what my weekly schedule looks like.

As you can see, most of my time during the weekdays goes to work and I am free on Saturdays and Sundays. I can use the weekends to meet my friends, have fun, entertain myself and etc.

The slots that are not filled are the time periods during which I have no appointments planned.

KT: Well, that’s fine, but where do you accommodate your football practice, learning flute, dance etc?

RD: Oh, I forgot to mention them. Since I cannot change the times filled above, I have to put these things like dance, singing etc in time slots other than the mentioned one’s in black. So, if I have to fill the time chart now with these additions. It would look like(time chart with only black and red text)

KT: Okay. Since your dance class was scheduled during that time, you marked it in that slot. What about your exercising, flute, chatting over net?

RD: Yes, I am coming to that point. Since dance, football etc are team events, they have to be mapped on to the time chart first, because you cannot do them without the team. Coming to exercise, flute and chatting over net, these things, I can do on my own. So, if I now again have to re-draw my time-chart, it will look like the one with black, red and blue.

I exercise in the morning in the time which I booked for morning chores and getting ready to office.

If I still have time, I can play flute too in that time. And chatting over net, I can do that only after I come back from work since that’s the time everyone would be available.

And this chatting is optional, I can choose to chat and I can choose even not to chat on a day.

KT: Okay, the time-chart is almost full now. What do you use the free slots on weekends for?

RD: hmmm. That’s kind of a stupid question. Don’t you expect me to meet my friends, socialize and have fun? I use those days for them. I meet my friends, meet people, have fun and relax. Since the plan for those days is not finalized, I left those time slots unfilled and empty. I will fill them before I go to sleep on that day.

KT: why do you need to fill them after you are done with the day and the event?

RD: Didn’t get you

KT: I meant to say, from Monday to Friday, you have events planned so, you prepared a time-chart so that you wouldn’t forget what to do at what time. You are free on Saturdays and Sundays and you don’t have anything planned on those days. Why do you fill them after the day is over?

RD: Oh, I fill them in order to assess the time that I am spending on different things.

KT: Assess? Why assess?

RD: Why? Hmmm. Let me put it this way. Do you manage your money account?

KT: Yes

RD: Do you assess how much you spent on each thing?

KT: Yes

RD: Why do you do that?

KT: In order to know where I can save my money.

RD: Exactly, it’s the same with time too. I assess my spending time so that I can see where I can take some time off and put it in other things.

KT: Other things? What exactly do you mean by them?

RD: hmmm. Let’s say I want to watch a movie on some weekday, can I take some time off from the above chart and go? Yes, I can, because I can flex the time chart a bit once in a while for recreation purpose. And let’s say I have to pay my bills by a certain date. Now, can I take time out of my schedule and allocate that time to finish this activity? These are some of the situations that I can think of right now.

KT: Oh, I got it, but let’s say there came up something that requires your urgent attention. How do you handle it? Like, let’s say, your bike has a flat tube and you have to get it repaired. Or something serious happens. Or someone turns up during the time you planned for your recreation.

RD: That’s what I was saying a little ago. This is the schedule that you would plan to follow for the coming week, but you never what things come up and what might happen. So, not only do you prepare a time-chart like this for the week but you also keep track of what are the things that you followed and the things that you dint. So, you will have one time-chart prepared for the coming week and the other prepared as the days pass by. Then, at the end of the week, you sit and assess which things went according to your plan, which things dint, why they dint and find out the reasons as well. By doing the above exercise, you will be able to keep track of how you are spending your time.

KT: Okay, but I am not really convinced with the answer that you gave. I wanted to know how you handle unplanned things.

RD: Oh, I am sorry I dint answer that. Did you study Operating systems?

KT: Yes, but why that now?

RD: To draw an analogy. You do know how the OS handles interrupts right?

KT: Yes, but what has that got to do with this?

RD: It’s just the same way. Just as an OS identifies the interrupt, you should be able to identify.

KT: Identify? How?

RD: An interrupt comes with a priority. You have a list of jobs scheduled and this interrupt comes in. The OS assigns it a priority and then processes it you have to do it the same way. Every unplanned event comes with a priority. So, decide upon your priorities, list them down and follow them.

KT: Can you explain a bit?

RD: Hmmm, sure. Let’s say I planned to go home and watch a movie on Friday, but there is an issue in the office which has to be sorted out right there and then itself. So, I can drop the idea of going to the movie and sit there and resolve the issue, depending on the priority of the two things that you have in hand which are clashing at the time you had for some event.

Similarly, let’s say I am in office doing some work and if something very important happens/turns up at home which requires my attention, I will stop my work there, report to the manager, leave the office, come home and attend the issue that is at home. So, all depends on how you prioritize things.

KT: Okay. That explanation helps. So, what does your final chart look like?

RD: Ha he. It’s not entirely about the chart my dear. It’s about how you organize and manage your time. Give priority to your events; manage your time and ALL THE BEST.

Remember this: Only a man who cannot organize/manage his time well wouldn’t find time.

Written below is a real story with a moral for everyone. Read through the story, understand the situations and the circumstances and guess the moral..

here's the story

There was a boy in high school we will call Joey. One day Joey leaned over to the girl sitting next to him in class and whispered, "Red roses."

The shocked girl stood up, slapped Joey in the face and went crying to the teacher. The teacher called Joey to the desk and asked what he had said.

"Red roses" was Joey's reply, at which the teacher screamed and sent poor Joey to the principal's office. As Joey waited in the lobby to be called in, he pondered what was happening to him. His thoughts where cut short by the sound of the secretary saying he could go in. Joey walked into the office and was told to take a seat, which he did. After telling the story of how he had been wrongly accused and how he knew there was some mistake, the principal smiled and asked, "OK, Joey, I understand. What did you say to her?" Joey was sure the principal would be a reasonable man and responded
"Red roses." you could watch as the principal turned red and shouted
"YOU'RE EXPELLED! GET OUT!"

Joey asked to wait for the bus to take him home, since he lived some distance away.
"NO!" Then Joey was informed that if he were caught on the premises again, he would be arrested for trespassing.

Very distraught, Joey set out on his way home. He had made it about a mile down the road when Old Man Jones, the local pig farmer, stopped and offered a ride home. Joey, being very upset, of course, accepted the ride. Not more than a mile down the road, Old Man Jones asked why Joey wasn't in school, so Joey told the story of the events that had happened that day. At the end of the story, the old man said that it sounded like Joey had quite a rough time of it
"Oh, and what did you say?" Joey hesitated-- should he tell the man what he said, or not? He decided to tell him.
"Red roses."

The tires squealed as the truck ground to a halt.Old Man Jones reached over and opened the door and pushed Joey out of his car. Now very angry, Joey got up, brushed himself off, and continued on his way home. Upon arriving at home, Joey's mother, Mrs. Campbell, saw
that her son wasn't looking too good, and asked why he hadn't caught the bus. Joey told her. She fixed Joey a bowl of soup and then asked,
"Joey, dear, what on earth did you say to that little girl?" Joey wasn't sure what to do. He knew his mother loved him, but he didn't want her to have the same reaction everyone else had. But he told her anyway.
"Red roses."

Joey waited in his room with a bruised ego and a sore bottom, wondering what would happen when his father got home. Six o'clock came around and Joey's father got home. He could hear his parents arguing outside his door and then suddenly it was quiet. Mr.. Campbell came into the room and said,
"Your mother told me you had some trouble at school, but I told her you and I would figure it out. But the first thing is you have to tell me what you said."
"OK, Dad, I said red roses'," was Joey's response.
"GET OUT OF MY HOUSE, YOU"RE NO SON OF MINE!"

The next morning, Joey decided he needed to get a job. It was awhile before he found anyone who would hire a 15-year-old who had been expelled from high school and kicked out of the house. But Joey wasn't a quitter, and he did find a job working at a gas station in a neighboring town. After a few months, Joey had managed to get settled in his new job and had even moved into the apartment over his boss' garage.

On a particularly slow day at work Joey's boss asked what had happened that caused everything that had happened to happen. Joey went into along story of emotional stress,misunderstood youth, the pain of having lost all of his friends and family in one fateful day. The tale Joey spun was so powerful; his boss was moved to tears and, out of compassion, offered to adopt Joey.

With the firstsmile to cross his lips in months, Joey accepted. On the way to the court proceedings a few days later, Joey's boss asked him,
"Exactly, what did you say to her?" Without thinking, Joey replied,
"Red roses."
His boss grew as white as a ghost and said, "That was my niece, you little pervert!"

Once again, Joey was without a friend in the world. The next day Joey took all the money he had managed to save and bought a bus ticket to wherever the farthest place from here is. As he waited for his bus, a little old lady sat down next to him on the bench. Even though he didn't want to, she started talking, and before you knew it, she had heard almost the whole story. But she interrupted and asked what he had said.
"Ma'am, I said 'red roses'."

Well, the words were just barely out of his mouth when she started beating him with her cane. In order to flee the fury of the old woman, he ran across the road, but he never made it to the other side. He was hit by a speeding Mack truck and he died.

Now, there ends the story. But there is a moral in this story. Can you find out what it is???

What I beleive in is that human brain is quite a good processor when it comes to searching and sorting. All that a human being gets through any or all of his five senses will be stored in the brain. And each record will have certain enumerations on it. The kind of emotion that are produced for a particular data as a result of harmone secretion (type + quantity) is the key. When we look at a person the first thing our brain does is searches similar images. The similary between two data(image) would be decided by the correlation factor for those two data. Correlation factor could range from 0%(rately occurs. U can find such correlation only during you early stages of life. Coz your brain doesn't have enough data) till 100%(when u come across the data for the second time). The sum of correlation factors across the entire data base would decide the emotional factor for that data. Likingness depends on how much of that type of emotional factor is generated in your brain. As a matter of fact any kind of feeling would be generated in the same way. That's why sometimes we like a person even if we are seeing the person first time.. or hate a person or any emotion on that person.

my plant visits

i had been going around all the plants of the company for about a month. thought it wud be better if i can tell what all i have seen.
the tour started as we went to bhandara from bangalore. Train: Rajdhani Express.
We expected a lot out of Rajdhani. Delicious food and flight like services. though the service was not as expected, we had a great time with some of our guys bribing the guy from the train and he got some beer for them. they had it all night and were screaming alot in the cabins :)
the next day mom and dad were supposed to come. called up pallavi and asked if she can come to station to meet me coz the train stops there for about an hour. didnt expect her to say yes but surprisingly she came and we had a chat for that time. felt nice to see her. :)
The first experience to bhandara was not that good. We had a van and first thing that pissed us off was that it was a TATA van which was our basic rival here. the weather and the conditions were so good that i started loving the place. then came the hard reality. the road was closed down coz of heavy rains and flood. i didnt know what flood looks like earlier. but as our van passed by i have seen damn bad things. the road was filled with water for four feet. the silencer was about to go off filled with water. then somehow we managed to get thru and really had a bad time there. then came the dinner part. this was the first time i had gone to a hotel at 9pm and had food by 1 am. too much trouble on the first day. then saw the movie " KANK" just because the highest ticket was 25 bucks (in b'lore min is 80 bucks). left off at the end coz it was so boring. many guys left before interval itself. then the plant has been quite good. good interaction with people coz they knew Hindi.. all of them. much of the factory area was covered with jungle. we have people who went on venturing out into the jungle. we slept on a watch tower one day coz the work was too boring.. just observe and learn. then there was a guy who went to the nearby temple on a hill. did lot of trecking and all. they had a nice time but i didnt like to go. thought i did all this long time ago and this is not the right time to do it.then we got transited to chennai. the first two days were good as the buses were specially for us and the timings were as we liked. the hotel was infront of a biig apartment colony where mostly marwadi's lived. so had a nice glance of too many pretty girls untill we changed the hotel for service reasons. training at chennai is like learning from the mother plant. the whole company was started here and we were to undergo a hands on training there. it was pretty good and many of the people were wanting to work much. the problems started when people cudnt talk to us and interact to us. many of the workers didnt like to lose their production rate and give us the machines. had a lot of trouble with that. but anyhow it got over. the work gets over by 11 am in the morning and all the workers sleep after that. We executives are not supposed to sleep and sit in the workshop but what the hell are we supposed to do watching those idle machines and processes? i blasted these things on the HR manager who is supposed to be our coordinator. i think he wil have a hard time managing the next batch. we had a very bad feedback on the training. said the same thing to the other batches also. many of the guys from north india had trouble with food all the time.
and coming to the leisure part.. i was out most of the time trying to meet my friends at chennai, visiting places and one thing i missed out in chennai is the beach. bought out my contacts and goggles there.
Kalyani's wedding was supposed to be on monday the day we were supposed to report here at hosur. as the day was an off for us, i took permission to stay back. the marriage was in a temple. gosh i havent seen those many marriages at the same place ever. it was sad that both the parents didnt agree for the marriage at first and she got married. saw a lot of tension in her face. finally when i came back to Hosur, i was informed that her parents agreed and she was at home having all the pleasures of a newly wed pellikoothuru.
thats the news as of now with me.

······Dont be confused as to what this means. Baltrix is a movie starring Balakrishna as the hero.
This movie is being made by me after watching some of his movies like Samara simha reddy, Vijayendra Varma, Chenna Kesava reddy etc.
To fully understand this movie and appreciate this movie, people are recommended to watch the above movies.
They are a pre-requisite for this movie :p

Coming to the how-abouts of Baltrix, the movie is named after the movie Matrix. The story runs on the similar lines of Matrix but in Balayya's style.

Few days back I went to this movie and I must tell you I am pretty impressed. Everyone has his reasons to watch this movie. Mine was that it had a pretty good trailer, a catchy tagline (“People shouldn’t be afraid of the government but the Government should be afraid of the people”) and a masked character (“I like superheroes because they give a source of inspiration”). I didn’t even know that it was The Wachowski Brothers screenplay. The movie didn’t disappoint.

One of the sections of the movie where it is highly successful is dialogues. There is no use having good dialogues if you don’t have a proper person delivering it. This is where Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith of “Matrix” and Elrond of “LOTR” fame) is so good at. Natalie Portman and Stephen Rhea were also good at what they did. This movie is a “must see”. Some of my favorite moments in this movie were:-

I was with my friends a couple of days ago where there arose an issue of a girl and her boy-friend.
Well, I must say I never understood what a girl likes in a boy. The only reason I found was that they are purely illogical in their decisions. Even research says that 80% of the decisions which a human makes are purely illogical be it a small one or a big one.

       Well, coming back to the post, there was this girl who took us to the movie "Style" saying that "Prabhu deva mudhuga unnadu movie lo". We went for the movie and while returning she wants to go on a bike and that too of her boyfriend. She introduced him to all of us and then after a while he left. Then we started teasing her by repeating the phrase "Prabhu deva mudhuga unnadu movie lo". She started hitting us and then we changed the topic onto her boyfriend. Initially we started with the general stuff :
" vaadilo neeku emi nachindhi etc etc." Then one fellow started the following and others added to the stuff.

"vaado chettha gaadu. second hand gaadu. kothi moham gaadu. vaadela nachchaadu neeku." and then started using all epithets possible. A few are listed below. You people can add more.

Basically, the situation is to scold a person using epithets which describe all the useless things in the world around you.

seems like raki is a lot into girls things.. cleaning up their rooms, helping em out of the college. good on u mate..well to say on my side.. it turns totally different. right now i am in the core of enjoying the whole life..wake up at about 11 am.. classes.. who cares.. its about two weeks since i went to attend a class.. no labs and stuff.. i sometimes feel its too much but i am all the more less than many of the batch mates.. some havent gone for months..evening parties are the attractions of the day most of the times.. cant believe i grew from a size of 28 on waist to 32 and more. and the fun part of it is that i am out of clothes to wear.. only two pants fit on and others not at all able to wear. so i decided to end up with this and am going for basketball dialy.. there is a lot of strain in the game and its always a fun to play the game. meanwhile in the block i am trying to complete the violin lessons i promised suresh. and am eagerly waiting for the next book to come from him. so there goes the violin classes. the gaming at the Engineer Tech Fest went well.. I was given the sole responsibility of organising Counter Strike in the college. So I became the sole authority of the domain.. Shud tell ya about the matches..There were about 10 teams registered. we were expecting some other out station participants as we promised prize money this time. but none turned out and it was two first year teams which turned out..
The teams were:

BFH, SYA, FMS, GMD, FONK,BAR, AAA, ABC
and two first year teams. our team(BFH) was to play with BAR and we cudnt get the players on the other side.. so we ended up getting a by.the teams into the semis were BFH, SYA, FMS and FONK..
The matches were pretty boring.. meanwhile the first year teams came up.
The scores have been pretty interesting.. all of them ended up as 8-2 and 3-0..
finally it was our turn against FONK.. we were so damn sure of winning but the initial score made us worry.. It was 8-2 in their favour. then we became T's. we decided to turn it all around. It all boiled down to 9-1 victory for the boys from hell... we thought we gave a pretty good fight and entertained people around. not such a close match occured in the whole tournment..the same old adrenaline flow..
Then came the finals with FMS..now there is something to tell about FMS.. in the early stages of CS in the hostel,.. this clan was formed as a basic rival against us..eventually they lost in the earlier tournments.. Now they tried to improvise merging all the good players of different clans as one. Now there is Rome and Jabba from old team, Veronica from KMA, THe MA$k from wtfa, and Ryan from KMA.. the match was in the map cpl_fire..
we chose to be CT's.. the scores were 10- 5 and the last round didnt count coz vero had a problem in his comp.. so it was 10-4 in their favor.. we were to win 12 rounds out of 15 to make the rounds clear.. we rocked it up.. it was 12-3.. godd such a tensed up round.. it was soooooooo gooooooooooooooooooooooood. one round i had a sweep with magnum and it drove me crazy. then was the last round with 4 kills for me.. the last one to remain was jabba and he got me.. meanwhile the other and the only team mate left got jabba.. we jumped to feat and had a nice time then.. then we thought we got what is worth playing for about an year in the block..

Got this question when I was helping a M.Tech girl clean up her room and make everything go smooth when she is leaving the campus once and for all to US.
Now, this is not the crazy part. She tells me that she is going to US on 16th of this month but she is vacating the hostel tonight. So, I stay there with her, help her pack her things, call a cab for which she paid ofcourse and etc. And above all this,, no matter if it was her or someother, I feel like giving something to anyone whom I cannot meet for a long time. So, I plan to give her the Felicity T-shirt that she asked for. One more idea was to give her something else. Between these ideas, I got this brilliant idea as to what to give a girl on her birthday as a present. Got this:
Make a note of the little things that a girl asks you. Pack them all as a gift and give it. So my gifts follows::
1. A chicken leg
2. Two papers on which she signed her saying that " My autograph is more valuable than anything in the world". Already sent this to her :)
3. I dont know what people call them, but when you attend some meeting, people place a strange flower like thing made of paper on your shirt. that one.
4. A bunch of flowers
5. A dancing doll
6. Ear rings and stuff.

Might add to this list but will take certain time. Have to get in touch with some more....

Well, there was nothing planned for the day but as soon as I heard this, my intelligent brain started working on some story and came up with an answer...

SHE : "Why can't you just go and do something good for us people. Go propose some girl and if she agrees, thank god, we will be saved"

Moral : looking at the conversation, I was very much surprised to find that I have come up with such a good story.

this is to inform that i have achieved 100% ROI as of today on my initial portfolio of $2K. now it is worth $4k. did learn few things on the way and implementing them now seems to be great. thanks to Raji for giving me $1K to invest. anyway, here are the things that i learnt (not a full list)
1. DJA, NASDAQ, NYSE and 10 yr bond mostly have negative correlation. one set rises the other falls.
2. Stock market is very sensitive to information. Things to look for are the quarterly results of major companies. for e.g., if Google reports are not good, it would also affect other tech stocks.
3. it is not just enough if a company reports profits, those profits should meet the investors' expectations.
4. airline industry mostly rises after july 4th till end of december, with it being on the rise just after september or so.
5. oil industry rises during summer time.
